Great thinkers fascinate me.  I often wonder what they focus their attention on?  What questions do they ask?  What books are they reading?  Who are they talking to?  What do they not do?  How do they make use of their time?  Of all the questions I ask myself though, here’s what I wonder about most – What new ideas are they coming up with and what will come from those thoughts?

When it comes to harnessing the power of your ideas as a leader, here are some good things to know:

  1. Great ideas come from anywhere at anytime.  So pay attention and be ready to catch them.
  2. Great ideas are sometimes re-positioned by others.  So stay confident you’re adding value.
  3. Great ideas cannot die.  So don’t give up and keep them alive.
  4. Great ideas spurn additional ideas.  So keep them coming.
  5. Great ideas are often collaborative.  So have smart people around you.
  6. Great ideas always benefit others.  So be externally focused.
  7. Great ideas are formed in crockpots, not microwaves.  So take time and process your thoughts.
  8. Great ideas need help to become reality.  So have a plan.
  9. Great ideas are desperately needed.  So set aside time each day for thinking.
  10. Great ideas are extremely valuable.  People will pay for them.

John Maxwell says “The only difference between successful and unsuccessful people is how they think.”

Therefore I leave you with these questions – What are you thinking about today?  Have you come up with at least one great idea?  If so, share it.  Let’s work together and make our ideas better.
