Current Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre once provided one of my favorite leadership quotes when he was asked if he was helping then back-up Green Bay Packer QB Aaron Rodgers get ready for the upcoming season. Favre responded “It’s my job to get myself ready. It’s Aaron Rodgers job to himself ready.” Described as “a force of normalness”, Rodgers has done a superlative job getting ready.
In the August 30th edition of The Sporting News, Steve Greenberg sat down for a one-on-one conversation with the current Green Bay signal caller. The following are the leadership quotes provided by Rodgers during that interview:
- It’s the experience factor, seeing different looks, taking all the practice reps, the offseason work, the film study of yourself, the game-time experience, all of it allows me to play a lot faster than I did.
- I’m a Packer player, but I’m also a person. I have my own life going on off the field.
- I enjoy being just one of 53 on the team.
- I lead by example. I enjoy my time with the guys.
- As a leader and a quarterback, you need to look for those moments to spend time with the guys because it’s important for team chemistry.
- I like the momentum we have coming back from last year.
- I like the chemistry we have, the camaraderie we have, the character.
- To have studied under Brett Favre for that long, you learn what to do and what not to do. – Chicago Bears DT Tommie Harris
- The guy I want to be like is Tom Brady. That’s because he has won three Super Bowls and had a ton of success and done it the right way.
- He’s (Head Coach Mike McCarthy) just a hard worker who’s successful. He puts the time in…He cares about us…He expects us to prepare and perform and expects his coaches to teach and prepare us well.
- Lots of McCarthy’s coaches are his former players.
- He’s (McCarthy) a good man and a good family man. I’m in his corner, and I know he’s in mine.
- We draft guys, they go through our system and we pay them.
- Green Bay wanted me, and I’m forever grateful for that and hopefully will repay them with another trophy in the case.
- Hopefully the legacy I’ll leave is one of somebody who was of high character, did things the right way, cared about his teammates, was coachable and was good to the community he lived in.
