Leadership is very complex.  However, you can identify common qualities that all great leaders possess.  The following are four traits that will find in leaders who have significant influence and are making a huge difference in the lives of others:

  • Responsiveness – Great leaders are aware of what is going on in the organizations that they lead.  They are attentive and keep their ear to the ground.  Because of this, great leaders are rarely blind-sided.  And perhaps most importantly, great leaders never delay when they are needed.
  • Accessibility – Great leaders are in the moment.  As servant leaders, they possess unbelievable people skills.  They do not operate in an ivory tower.  While utilizing their time and influence wisely, great leaders still walk amongst the people.  Great leaders can build relational bridges with anyone.  They have the likeability factor.
  • Different Perspective – Great leaders see things through a different lens.  Where others see roadblocks or problems, great leaders see opportunity and potential.  Effective leaders understand how to leverage desperation and pain.
  • Solutions – Problems must be solved.  Obstacles must be overcome.  Fires must be put out.  When great leaders walk into a room or are inserted into a situation, things get better.  Ministry and corporate initatives are advanced.  When great leaders show up, you often hear “I’m so glad xxx is here.  He/She will straighten this out.”

Responsiveness.  Accessibility.  Perspective.  Solutions.  Pastors and leaders, none of us are perfect.  We are all developing as leaders.  Are these qualities that you possess?  If not, what area(s) do you need to work on?
