Leaders are always looking for ways to have success. For many leaders failure is simply not an option.
Earlier today, the four best teams in the NFL played for the right to go to the Super Bowl. As I watched ESPN Countdown’s pre-game coverage, I gleaned the following 17 Things Leaders Must Do To Have Success.
As you read the following list, determine which areas you need to improve in to increase your odds of success.
- Limit Mistakes – “Of the four teams playing the only team with a negative turnover margin is Denver with -2…If you want to win today play a clean football game.” – Tom Jackson KeyShawn Johnson adds, “This season teams with 4 or more turnovers are 9-29.”
- Avoid Complacency – “Every game is different…You have to be ready for anything.” – Denver Broncos head coach John Fox
- “Do your job.” – Jackson. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson says, “Every day I come into work I try to be better than everyone else.”
- Have Consistency – “Our mentality is exactly the same. It is to go 1-0.” – Wilson.
- Be Confident – 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin says, “Colin Kaepernick’s confidence doesn’t waiver, doesn’t change.”
- Surround Yourself With Great Teammates – “It’s only going to a defining moment for Colin Kaepernick if he turns around and hands the ball to Frank Gore.” – Ray Lewis
- Be Resilient – “This is the most hard-nosed, resilient Patriots team I’ve ever played on.” – Tom Brady
- Upgrade Personnel – “They (New England Patriots) do not turnover the football but they have no problem turning over their roster.” – Adam Schefter
- Have Intelligence – “You have to be a student of the game to play in the slot.” – Chris Carter
- Be Flexible – “Flexibility, adaptability during the game is where we are headed.” – Jackson
- Have Determination – “Running the football is a mentality. Brady says, ‘I’m going to impose my will on you.'” – Lewis
- Trust Of Your Preparation – “I trust my reads and trust what I’m doing.” – Wilson
- Develop A Personal Growth Plan – “Always have a great purpose in life. Have great perspective on how you want to do it. Always preserving. Nothing great will happen if you don’t push yourself.” – Wilson on his “3 Ps”
- Be Courageous– “If you want to be a champion you can’t be afraid. If you want to be a champion prepare like one.” – Wilson
- Produce Results – “The #1 stat for quarterbacks is quarterbacks is winning games.” – Carter. Lewis adds, “Since coming into the game, he (Wilson) is 17-1 at home.” Wilson sums it up by saying, “God gave me a gift to make plays. We’re not struggling. We’re winning a lot of football games.”
- Prioritize – “To be considered as the greatest at the quarterback position, you have to win rings. Bottom line. Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback we’ve ever seen in the regular season…But when you talk about the bottom line, the bottom line is championship rings.” – Lewis
- Finish Well – “Finish. Finish the season and finish the game.” – Fox
