As a member of the Catalyst Blog Team and INJOY Stewardship Solutions, I will be bringing you live updates from the much anticipated Catalyst Conference in Atlanta, GA. The theme for this year’s conference is Change Is Coming.
As is its annual tradition, the conference was opened by the incomparable Andy Stanley, Founding Pastor of North Point Community Church. There is no finer communicator of Christian leadership principles than Andy. The following are 31 Leadership Quotes and Lessons from his session from Nehemiah 1.
Also, before reading, make sure you check out the announcement from INJOY Stewardship Solutions shown below about a FREE webinar I will be conducting on October 16th for churches needing to raise capital in 2015. Now onto Andy’s thoughts:
- Who are you and what breaks your heart?
- What breaks my heart is every single adult doesn’t go to bed on Saturday night looking forward to Sunday morning.
- There are hundreds of thousands of adults who don’t attend church because the church has been marginalized.
- On this day there are over 400,00 children in foster care. – Sandra Stanley
- Children in foster care are four times more likely to be exploited in foster care. – Sandra
- Children many times leave foster care in far worse shape than when they entered. – Sandra
- John Maxwell is who introduced the topic of leadership into the church culture.
- There’s an inexorable correlation between leadership and change.
- Great leaders make things better.
- Every time you make things better something must change.
- Status quo is supposed to drive you crazy.
- Where there are leaders leading you will find change.
- Great leaders love to fix things that are broken.
- We hate to see broken things continue to be broken. But when you try to fix things you introduce change.
- Great leaders don’t blame.
- Blame is perhaps the most effective change strategy.
- If you are blaming you have advocated leadership.
- Broken-hearted leaders change things that go beyond their current generation.
- Catalyst is about bringing together leaders who love the local church.
- We are not just all leaders. We are called leaders.
- Nehemiah’s broken heart was part of a divine design.
- If you are a leader you are called by God to bring about change in the things that break your heart. You are not called to change the world but you are called to change something.
- If you opt for purposelessness because of fear, there will come a day where you will wish you could come back to the thing that scares you to death but breaks your heart.
- What many years from now would like people to line up to thank you for?
- What God originates God orchestrates.
- If God has originated a broken-heart in you “how” is not a problem.
- Leaders address the “how”.
- God is the God of How.
- People will name their sons James and John and name their dogs Nero and Caesar.
- If this is possible, you need to ask bigger. If this is possible, you need to dream bigger.
- As Christians we should be baffled by pride and arrogance.
More leadership insights to come throughout the day.
