This morning’s final session included an interview with the incomparable Andy Stanley, Senior Pastor of North Point Community Church.  Andy is one of the world’s greatest communicators of leadership principles and as usual, did not disappoint.

The following are 18 Leadership Quotes and Lessons from Andy’s interview:

1. Every story of change there is always someone who didn’t have the resources or the network and they needed and did something anyway.
2. No one ever has the resources they need.
3. “How” is what kills vision and dreams. Don’t ask “How” until we figure out the “What”. The “How” can kill the “What”.
4. Resources follow vision.
5. In leadership there are always problems to be solved and tension to be managed. When you try solve a tension, you create a problem.
6. We always have more ideas than we can fund.
7. If you volunteer at your local church or non-profit, you live and die with volunteers.
8. The more you expect from a volunteer the more you get.
9. We ask our volunteers, “Do you work here?” They say, “Not yet.”
10. Two primary ways to keep volunteers motivated – Food and T-shirts.
11. T-shirts create a sense of “We”. Food says, “We don’t mind spending money on you.”
12. In a volunteer organization there has to be time for community.
13. When the house is on fire, don’t tell me what your spiritual gift is. Just grab a hose and put out the fire.
14. If a volunteer can help us with an immediate need, we can put them in a place to make their greatest contribution.
15. Charisma on stage is not necessarily evidence of the Holy Spirit.
16. If you want to know if I’m a Godly man, follow me home.
17. If a leader goes with their gut, it should be after listening first to people they trust.
18. Leaders who refuse to listen eventually are surrounded by people who have nothing helpful to say.
