The day’s next speaker was Kat Cole.  Kat is responsible for building FOCUS Brands revenues and profits through global licensing, manufacturing, and ecommerce. Previously, she was President of Cinnabon, Inc.  The following are 23 Leadership Quotes And Lessons from her educational session on priorities:

  1. When I think about the most important aspect to casting a vision, I think about perspective and gaining an understanding of what is possible.
  2. The people who are closest to the action, the transaction, know the right thing to do long before the leader does.
  3. Your job as a leader is to stay as close in touch as possible with those closest to the action.
  4. My mom fed my family on a food budget for $10 a week for three years.
  5. No matter what good things or bad things are happening in a day, this too shall pass.
  6. You have to help others broaden their perspectives.
  7. If the vision isn’t clear no one will follow. The best way to gain clarity is to harness priorities.
  8. We have to focus on the thing that gives us the highest return with the limited resources we have.
  9. Sometimes you have to forego a small, immediate opportunity for something that will give you a bigger return for your company.
  10. There is always something too big to change right now.
  11. Focus on things small enough to change but big enough to matter.
  12. By focusing on the right thing, we impacted everything.
  13. It doesn’t matter how many schools you build, if our children are prostituting themselves, we must have water.
  14. The Power of Possible is the heart of building a vision.
  15. People cannot achieve what they cannot believe but most importantly, cannot see.
  16. The other way to create influence is to show other people what is possible.
  17. It’s insanely powerful to bring people to their own moment of seeing what is possible.
  18. No matter what level you are you will have many “firsts” in front of you.
  19. The Hot Shot Rule is about being your own self coach and seeing what works.
  20. If a hot shot took over my job today, when they looked at how I was doing my job, what is one thing that has become acceptable to me, would be unacceptable to them and it has to be fixed? Then ask why does it have to be a hot shot? Why can’t I change it?
  21. Progress can be blinding. It is the innovator’s dilemma.
  22. Just because things can be worse, that does not mean you do not have the obligation to make them better.
  23. Ultimately your role as a leader is showing people what is possible.
