The day’s third speaker was James Brown.  James is a three-time Emmy award winning network broadcaster and in 2010 was named SI.com’s “Best Studio Host of the Decade”. He is the host of “The NFL Today” on CBS and Super Bowl 50, host of “Thursday Night Football” on CBS.  The following are 30 Leadership Quotes and Lessons from his inspiring session:

  1. In any undertaking, the success to be enjoyed will depend upon the people.
  2. The right kind of person will account for that success.
  3. Depth is the foundation. Height is the success to be enjoyed by any endeavor. The depth determines the success.
  4. They had to dig four stories deep to support the super-structutre’s height. – Washington Monument
  5. When you determine how high you want to go in life, you must build that amount of depth.
  6. The players who play for me, God must be fist. Family is second. School is third. Only then is basketball fourth. – Morgan Wooten
  7. To the degree in which you internalize the fundamentals will determine your degree of success.
  8. Three communication skills – speaking, writing and most important, listening.
  9. Bad communications, evil communications, profane communications corrupt good manners.
  10. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
  11. Profane coaches are covering up for the fact they are not good teachers.
  12. The way you are dressed makes a statement about you before you even open your mouth.
  13. Neat tasteful attire is always appropriate.
  14. Be ahead of time.
  15. Promptness communicates you are reliable and respect other’s time.
  16. I’m working on this because I say “Yes” to too many things.
  17. Everybody’s not treated the same. Don’t give your boss and excuse to fire you for not being on time..
  18. A thirst and hunger for knowledge. Your co-workers will see you as a go-to person.
  19. Just because you finished your formal education does not mean you’re done going to school.
  20. We live in a global community. We are no longer separated by great distances.
  21. Every joint supplies.
  22. In every life there will be trials and tribulations.
  23. Are you founded upon a good foundation with solid rock principles that will see you though?
  24. The toughest challenge that prepared me for the game of life was the passing of my mother.
  25. I thank God to have worked in some winning organizations.
  26. Nobody cares who gets the credit. That’s when you win.
  27. In loneliness of mind, esteem others more highly than yourself.
  28. People want a leader who embodies character and integrity.
  29. To educate in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society – Theodore Roosevelt
  30. Don’t waste time with silly things. Doing things the right way will determine success.
