The morning’s next session was conducted Jud Wilhite. Jud serves as Senior Pastor of Central Church. Central is dedicated to introducing people to Jesus and helping them follow Him. Jud is a best-selling author who has written several books including The God of Yes, Pursued, and a study Bible for new believers, The Uncensored Truth Bible for New Beginnings. The following are 21 leadership quotes from his unbelievable session:
- You are my people. I’m a fellow struggler. I’m a pastor.
- I know we’ve built a crowd. Have we built a church? When you call your people to sacrifice, you know if you’ve built a crowd or a church.
- When you start clarifying vision and calling them to sacrifice, you will have people leave.
- I love God a lot more when things are up and to the right. When things are down and to the left I wonder if God loves me.
- Your best leadership in the downturn, not the upturn.
- Your best leadership in the downturn when no one is watching is what enables you to celebrate when everyone is watching.
- My first four months I grew the church down 1500.
- If you’re facing a wall that just means you’re leading.
- Leadership is facing walls. And when you get through that one there will be another one.
- Define Reality – My job is to define reality. There’s nothing worse than following a leader who says everything’s great when it’s not great.
- Until you’ve been in a downturn, you don’t know how tempting it is to fall into secrecy. That’s not leadership. That’s cowardice.
- If you want to know exactly how your church is doing, it will take about six weeks, sit down with your top 100 contributors. You’ll know exactly where your church is out.
- When momentum is up it will mask a lot of your weaknesses.
- Nobody keeps momentum forever.
- How do you define reality – Humble yourself, look and listen
- Face the wall with a team.

- Get the right people around the table and empower.
- If you get the right people around the table you’ll get the right solution.
- Don’t break faith before you break through. Ministry is hard. Ministry is crazy.
- Pastors, you are the keeper of the keys to the funny farm. You are also an anointed, empowered servant of God who is on a mission.
