If you are reading this post you are likely very familiar with Apps. In case you’re not, an app is a 3rd party application that can be used with your phones or iPad. Apps can show news updates, tell you the weather, play games, stream video or audio, and a variety of other options depending on what you need and when you need it.
Depending on what you need and when you need it. That’s an important phrase isn’t it. I’ve noticed that many people view their Christian faith like an iPad App – they compartmentalize their faith, download it as one of their many options, and then apply it as needed. It’s merely an add-on to their lives.
Your Christian faith, your relationship with Jesus, should not be an add-on to your life. It should BE your life.
The following are ways to know that your Christian faith has become merely an app:
- God’s opinion on the issues of your life is not the primary decision point for you.
- You have become relationally distant from God. You don’t have long, heart-felt conversations anymore.
- Church attendance is optional.
- Prayer only happens in response to major difficulties.
- You are part of the 97% of Christians who do not tithe.
- You can’t remember the last time you read more than one chapter of the Bible in a day.
- It’s been years since you shared your faith with someone.
- Family devotions are a foreign concept.
- Scripture memory does not take place.
- You think you could do a better job running your life than God can.
If life is not as fulfilling as you would hope for, try making your relationship with Jesus the center piece of your life rather than a GPS app you use when you need direction. You’ll be grateful every day for eternity that you did.
