Have you ever had a really bad day? A bad week? A bad month? Even a bad year? There was once a time when I was having one misfortune after another in every area of my life. It seemed like my personal losing streak would go on forever. The tipping point came one morning at a local QT gas station.  As we were waiting for a pump to become available, another car did not see us in their rearview mirror and backed right into us.
We got out and inspected the car.  Fortunately, there was not even a scratch. My wife said “That is great. We got hit in just the right place. No damage.” I looked at her and in sheer frustration said, “What would be great is if we didn’t get hit in the first place!”
I just reached a point when I thought “Enough is enough!”  I was just tired of getting hit. I was beaten up. Â
I wish I was one of “those” people. Those who find joy in even the worst of circumstances and can make lemonade out of lemons. I’m just not that mature I guess.  Sometimes my elevator doesn’t say “Penthouse”.  Sometimes every elevator I get on just says “BASEMENT’. It feels like I’m seemingly going down all the time. And during those times, if you’re like me, you hate it. Â
It’s time to turn things around, but how?
I think I know the secret. The most important ingredient in regaining lost momentum is to begin getting small victories under your belt. Any victory will do. And the more you get, you start moving in a positive direction and gaining momentum.
Here are some professions and areas of your life that if you begin doing them just once, it can be the start of something great.
- Pastors, start by having just example of positive life change.
- Coaches, start by having just one good practice.
- Students, just make an “A” on your next test.
- If you’re attempting to lose weight, just eat right today.
- To rebuild relationships, just start by having one pleasant conversation.
- Husbands, to turn your marriage around, just start outserving your wife.
- Sales people, just make one sale today. It doesn’t matter how big.
- Financially, just start saving $25 out of each paycheck.
- Exercise for just 5 minutes each day this week.
- To increase your knowledge on any subject, start reading just one chapter in a book per day.
- To gain a healthier perspective, start helping just one person less fortunate than yourself.
- Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox, just win one game, one series. PLEASE!
A series of small improvements done incrementally over time yield HUGE results. Are you struggling right now? If so, just start getting some wins under your belt and your fortunes will improve.
And take it from experience, if you get hit “in the right place”, maybe that is a good start.
