The Link Between Pastors, Mark Zuckerberg, The Apocolypse, And Leadership

null

Obviously the rapture did not take place but a prediction by an 89-year-old Californian sure created a stir.  Why?

I believe people believed in “the end of the world” because they wanted to believe in it.  They wanted their world and the world to end.  They are completely unhappy with their lives and they were hoping for a way out.  They were led exactly where they wanted to go.

Mark Zuckerberg believes that for most people a squirrel dying in front of your house is more relevant than people dying in Africa.  Why?

He knows that people desperately want to tell their story.  He knows that people want to keep up with their friends.  He knows that people want to say, “Look at me”.  With the News Feed, Zuckerberg led people exactly where they wanted to go.

Pastors, this should be great news for you!!!  You have an opportunity to greatly influence people based upon where they want to go and what they want.  So the question becomes, what is it specifically that people want?  Here are some thoughts:

  1. People desperately want live a life of significance.
  2. People desperately want to live in peace with God, themselves, and each other.
  3. People desperately want a loving family.
  4. People desperately want to experience forgiveness.
  5. People desperately want meaning in their life.
  6. People desperately want purpose.
  7. People desperately want to be generous.
  8. People desperately want to serve others.
  9. People desperately want an anchor in their lives.
  10. People desperately want to relieve suffering and help the poor.
  11. People desperately want to sing.
  12. People desperately want to smile.
  13. People desperately want true friends.
  14. People desperately want security.
  15. People desperately want to know how to deal with life’s challenges and tragedies.
  16. People desperately want to count.
  17. People desperately want to know their beautiful.
  18. People desperately want to know they were not an accident.
  19. People desperately want to be loved unconditionally.
  20. People desperately want to know they are worth dying for.

Pastors, learn a lesson from Facebook and the apocalypse.  Lead people exactly where they want to go.  Lead them to Jesus Christ.
