Leadership is about mobilization. It’s about advancement, problem-solving, resourcing, team building, accomplishment, and the achievement of goals. You can also say it’s about character, communication, creativity, perseverance, and planning. But for new leaders just starting out, can we center the target and identify simply one thing that leadership is about?
As leaders we can often focus on systems, procedures, and tasks. We love our strategic plans. Creativity and market research provide necessary insight. Presentations often determine our self-worth. Getting things done allows us to rest better at night. These things do matter and are important. However, the best leaders know that this is only 20% of the story.
The best leaders, those with an entrepreneurial mindset, understand that leadership is all about….PEOPLE.Â
Investing energy, time, money, and resources in people is always better than the latest systems or technology.  Investors always focus on securing and keeping the best people they possibly can. The following are just 10 of the reasons why:
- People are the only appreciable asset an organization has.
- You can develop long-term relationships with people.
- Long-term relationships can lead to long-term funding and revenue.
- Potentially endless creativity.
- The talent of people can be multiplied through teams.
- People are measurable.
- People can stretch your thoughts.Â
- People can expand your worldview.
- People bring solutions.
- Some people want to change the world and bring relief to global hunger and suffering.
Jesus felt that people were the only thing worth dying for. He invested everything he had in people. Jesus understood the value of human relationships.
Rather than focusing on a number of other “important” tasks, perhaps you should consider investing everything you have in people as well. Relationships with people is what leadership is all about.
