The 2nd And 3rd Greatest Days In This Leader’s Life

March 26, 1990 is the 2nd greatest day of my life.  Ironically, I was really looking forward to that day for another reason.  You see, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were playing the LSU Tigers in the 2nd round of the NCAA basketball tournament.  This was to be a match-up of the two best point guards in college basketball – Kenny Anderson and Chris Jackson.  I couldn’t wait.

However, earlier in the week, one of my best friends said,“My girlfriend has this friend and we should go on a double-date on Friday.”  Friday night came and we drove up to my blind date’s home.  She opened the door and I thought “WOW!!!!”  Little did I know at the time, I had just met my wife.  This would become the 2nd greatest day of my life!!!

Unbeknownst to me my friend had done a terrible job setting up the evening.  I was decked out in my best outfit.  I did not know it at the time but she was wearing her worst.  However, I took her to one of the finest steakhouses in our community – Sizzler.  This restaurant is now a pawn shop.

We had a wonderful evening and by some miracle I was at my conversational best.  At the end of the evening we scheduled another date for the following evening.

That date did not go well (which is a humourous story for another time) but we lined up another date for the next night, Sunday after church.  It would become the 3rd greatest day of my life!!!

The highlight of the night was the two of us walking around the Marietta Square talking about God’s plan for our lives, what we wanted to accomplish in life, etc….  When the evening ended, all I knew is that I wanted to spend the rest of my life talking to this beautiful woman.  And for the past 21 years, I have gotten to do just that.

Today happens to be her birthday.  Happy Birthday sweetie!!!  It’s been a privilege being your husband and I can’t wait for the next 20 years.
