On Wednesday, November 23rd I had a wonderful phone conversation with Senior Pastor Thomas McDaniels of LifeBridge Christian Center in Longview, Texas. If you visit his site, you may recognize him from his appearances on TBN or DayStar Television. He has been a great promoter of this site and a tremendous online friend. It was wonderful to finally connect by phone.
The most interesting part of the conversation was his story about receiving a check for his ministry for $1.6 million. It had everything to do with faith.
All Christians are weak in some areas of our lives. It is these weaknesses that force us to daily rely on God and His grace. One of my weaknesses is that I struggle with faith. Not saving faith but the faith that God will truly take care of me? My future is in His hands but does that future look promising? Why do I worry so much? Perhaps you can relate to those type of struggles.
Pastor Tom told me a story about how God led him to fill out a deposit slip for $1 million in anticipation for that gift that would one day come. Tom prayed over that deposit slip everyday. What does $1 million, look like? Take a look at the picture above.
As the church was beginning to embark on a capital campaign for expansion, he casted a compelling vision about the church’s future. The total cost for the project was going to be $1.5 million. He then received a phone call from a businessman in the church wanting to get together and ask him some questions.
Not knowing what questions would be asked or what direction the meeting would go, Pastor Tom kept a very open mind. Good thing because the businessman stated he wished to take care of all the charges and wrote the church a check for $1.6 million!
The pastor’s faith was realized. Faith had become sight! The deposit slip was going to actually be put into the bank.
On a side note, you may be wondering what happened to the generous businessman.  A few months after he wrote the check the market crash of 2008 took place. However, in a series of events only God could orchestrate, some of his competitors fell upon hard times. Though already successful, he had now become the #1 global supplier of his product. After writing a check for $1.6 million, he became wealthier than he ever dreamed.
This is really a story about faith. Thomas McDaniels always encourages me but this week, he inspired me. Tonight, I am writing a deposit slip for $1 million and will begin praying over it daily. If God can do it for one person, He can certainly do it for me as well. Let my faith journey in this area begin.
