Too often churches have had a very limited number of volunteer opportunities available to those wishing to serve. For must churches, regardless of a person’s capacity, experience, or expertise, these were the options:
- Hospitality (Parking, Welcome Desk, Usher, Greeter)
- Music
- Teaching Sunday School or Facilitating a Small Group
- Working with Infants, Pre-Schooler, or Youth.
- Some could work their way up to a Board or Management Team Member
However, for many high-capacity leaders in your church, I think there is another option. You should create teams and opportunities for leaders within your church to volunteer with their MINDS.
The following are just 15 of the ways that leaders can serve with their MINDS:
- Strategic Planning
- Service Coordination
- Volunteer Training
- Organizational Alignment and Development
- Problem Solving
- Advisory Teams To Key Staff
- Mentoring Young People
- Financial Coaching
- Developing Systems
- Conflict Resolution
- Legal Issues
- Weekly Communication Strategies
- Digital Giving Development
- Social Media CommunicationsÂ
- Best Practices For Hiring and Transitions
Pastors and church leaders, many leaders in our churches are frustrated because their volunteer opportunities do not challenge them. They don’t feel they are accomplishing anything significant or in their giftedness.
Create opportunities and let them lead with their MINDS. This one decision may be the catalyst in creating a leadership culture in your church.
