“I just want to lead people to Christ.” – South Carolina Gamecock RB Marcus Lattimore
“I just want to lead people to Christ.” Those are the words of South Carolina Gamecocks RB Marcus Lattimore. They give you insight into the type of leader and human being that he is. They tell you where his focus is. So does the video profiling the All-American running back above.
Today, Lattimore suffered what appears to be another season-ending knee injury in their game against the Tennessee Volunteers. If that is sadly the case, this will be the second consecutive season that Lattimore’s season ended prematurely because of an injury to his knee.
Our hearts and prayers go out to this wonderful young man. Injuries are a constant companion for football players but this one is different because of the type of person Marcus is and how hard he had to fight back from last year’s injury. We pray for wisdom for the doctors, a speedy recovery, and future success in whatever endeavor God has planned for his life. He will certainly be a success in whatever direction life takes him.
A frequent speaker to local churches, the following are two quotes that demonstrate the importance and priority that his Christian faith has in his life:
- “I’m just going out there trying to be myself,” Lattimore said. “I just block it out and remember how I worked for those nine months (to recover from last season’s knee injury) and knowing that I’m strong enough to be able to take a hit or make that cut. I’m just relying on my faith in God and all the hard work I put into my leg to get it back to full strength.” – in an article to www.WISTV.com.
- “It was just good to be back at home and see all the people giving their life to Christ, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Lattimore said afterward meeting with reporters. “It just feels good to have an impact on people’s lives and the community. I’m just so happy and wouldn’t want it any other way.” – Lattimore after speaking with a youth group at First Baptist Church Spartanburg. You can read the full article by clicking here.
Once again, I am sure I speak for everyone when I say our prayers and best wishes go out to Marcus. We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate injury.
