Today I am being dispatched by Injoy Stewardship Solutions (ISS) to attend the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast. In an effort to grow in my skills to better add value to pastors and church leaders, I will be live blogging throughout.
The next speaker was Randall Wallace, the writer, producer and/or director of such films as Braveheart and Secretariat. The following are his thoughts on Beyond You leadership:
- My heart always pumps when I hear the pipes…from Braveheart.
- We all know somehow, instinctively hard-wired to say, “Standing here at the risk of my life is more important than what happens in my little life. Standing here in this life I’m standing here in the heart of God.”
- Freedom had always been the holy grail of my life. Jesus’ words, “You shall the trust and the truth will make you free” had always been one of my favorite verses.
- Freedom and rules don’t go together well.
- Braveheart changed some things for me. I was no longer able to plead poverty.
- If you ever knew what preson held as God you would know something about that person.
- In the South, we held up honor.
- In the large industrial cities, God is money. Doesn’t matter how you got it.
- In Hollywood, God is celebrity. Whatever you did to get famous, even if its nothing, you’re praised.
- Braveheart got a lot of little gold idols (Oscars).
- Hollywood For Habitat For Humanity gave me a chance to get my hands dirty and my heart clean.
- The secret was giving in secret.
- The joy of giving creates the magnificent obsession to give again.
- When we give we tend to judge the person we’re giving to.
- Money is not the only thing to give.
- He (Wallace’s dad) gave to a stranger. The stranger gave to me.
- Some men were born with their freedom. I had the privilege of winning mine.
