In an effort to add maximum value to pastors and church leaders, INJOY Stewardship Solutions has dispatched me to attend the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit. During these two days, I will be bringing some of the top leadership lessons from the incredible faculty the WCA has assembled.
The second day afternoon’s next speaker was the much anticipated Tyler Perry. The Hollywood actor, director and producer spoke on When Leadership Meets Inspiration. The following are 25 leadership quotes and lessons from his amazing session:
- They are twins in the space in my head. (leadership and artistic creativity)
- My dad, who was a sub-contractor, was so happy when he made $700-$800. I would then watch the man who owned the house sell it for $100,00.
- I didn’t want to be the man who built the house but I wanted to be the man who owned the house.
- The artist-side of me needs space and enough room to create.
- I’ll dedicate three to four months to just write. I’ll then dedicate two days to business.
- Great artists, people have more respect for you when you respect other people’s time.
- Clear the noise. Clear the clutter. This is also what I do in my prayer life. This is the only way I can hear from God.
- What I do is try to surround myself with people like me. I was the underdog.
- Sometimes I will cross over the more-qualified person with not the best attitude for the lesser talented person with a better attitude.
- My dad despised me for so long.
- Every Sunday morning my mom would wake me up and say, “Let’s go to church.”
- I want to know the God that makes my mom this happy.
- She gave me what has sustained me through everything. That’s my faith in God.
- It takes an enormous amount of energy to get through betrayal and pain. It takes the same amount of energy to forgive the doer.
- What is scary about forgiveness is you give up the hope of that ever being any different.
- It’s not just about making them laugh but use the laugh as the anesthesia to get to the issue.
- I hope every generation gets a little better (regarding race relations).
- If people would begin to open doors to other people and realize we’re all the same. All the struggles are the same. I’m hoping the next generation will be better.
- Critics – it is a matter of your own opinion. While they’re writing my shows and tearing it apart, I focus on my 12 million followers on Facebook who say it inspires them.
- My feast was prepared in front of my enemies. So watch me eat.
- I’m my mother’s son and she had a heart for giving.
- The first year I had so much money I gave it all away because I had so much guilt.
- When Forbes prints how much money you make, there’s a level of expectation for you in a local church. When you feel like a number instead of a soul, it’s a complete turnoff.
- I hate the forsaking of the assembly. I have a lot of celebratory friends who wish they could lay at the altar and there be no judgment.
- People may forget what you said to them. People may forget what you did to them. People will never forget how you made them feel.
