As a member of the Catalyst Blog Team and INJOY Stewardship Solutions, I will be bringing you live updates from the much anticipated Catalyst Conference in Atlanta, GA. The theme for this year’s conference is Change Is Coming.
Catalyst always begins by conducting a series of Labs on Wednesday for church leaders. The afternoon’s third session was conducted by Jon Gordon author of The Carpenter. The following are 31 Leadership Quotes and Lessons from his session on the power of positivity.
Also, before reading, make sure you check out the announcement from INJOY Stewardship Solutions shown below about a FREE webinar I will be conducting on October 16th for churches needing to raise capital in 2015. Now onto Jon’s thoughts:
- So much of leadership is we just keep running. We stay positive and keep moving forward.
- Leadership is a series of sprints combined with a boxing match.
- Optimism is a competitive advantage.
- We have to lead with optimism. We have to lead with hope.
- Leadership is a transfer of belief.
- One of the most important decisions we can make as leaders is not allowing negativity to sabotage our goals.
- As Christians we should be the most positive people on the planet.
- Learn to talk to yourself rather than listening to yourself.
- We can focus on being blessed or stressed. Research shows you can’t do both at the same time.
- Every challenge is an opportunity to grow and improve.
- Every failure is a gift to learn and come back stronger.
- The most important choice leader’s make on a daily basis is between fear and failure.
- Love, Serve and Care are the three greatest leadership strategies in history.
- Making a change starts with one.
- Good coaches know Xs and Os. Great coaches know their players.
- The more I love my wife the more I love life. It’s about what I share, not what I receive.
- Communication creates trust. Trust creates teamwork. Teamwork delivers results.
- Where there is a void in communication, negativity fills it.
- The enemy of great communication is busyness and stress.
- Team beats talent when talent isn’t a team.
- Commitment is always about sacrifice. We always put the team first.
- We love and we serve. And because we love, we serve.
- Your purpose needs to be greater than your challenges.
- You need to be a big household name. I want to be a big name in my household.
- You have the team you have for a reason.
- In our caring we stand out as Christians in a world that has forgotten about caring.
- We cannot be great without service and sacrifice.
- Great leaders don’t succeed because they’re great. They succeed when they bring out the greatness of others.
- Derek Jeter treated every at-bat like his last at-bat and that is why his last at-bat was so special.
- To work harder you have to care more.
- As leaders, when we care more we will build a team that cares more.
