Do Not Take Rest Breaks And 4 Other Productive Tips For Leaders

“Leaders in companies of every size, shape, and approach … can benefit from what I am about to tell you. If you want to complete a project, bang out a task you’ve been putting off, or just see-through a lot of work in a relatively short period of time, there’s an easy way.”

These are the words of Bryan Miles.  Bryan is the CEO and Co-founder of Miles AG, a conglomerate company consisting of eaHELP, MAG Bookkeeping, Render, Ellipsis, and others. Bryan and Shannon have grown Miles AG from a husband-and-wife operation to a thriving conglomerate that’s collectively responsible for more than 450 people, generates millions of dollars in revenue annually, and was named a recent Inc. 500 honoree (eaHELP).  He obviously knows a lot about productivity.  Let’s continue with his thoughts.

“Here’s how to knock stuff off FAST!

  1. Decide how long you will work. Don’t plan based on, “I’ll work as long as I can,” or “I’ll work as long as I feel productive.”  Set a specific target. Carve time out on your schedule to do you Action Items … and stick to your schedule.
  2. Tell everyone your plan. Be clear to everyone what you are up to. Interruptions are productivity killers. People important to you know what you intend to accomplish … and will know (and feel) if you don’t succeed.
  3. Start really early. Have you ever taken a long car trip for a vacation and left really early in the morning?  Like at 2AM or 3AM?  Those first few hours on the road fly by because you’ve stepped outside your norm. It works with work stuff too. Don’t believe me? Try it.
  4. Take productive breaks, not rest breaks. Momentum is everything.  Don’t take a walk, or watch a little TV, or goof around on the Internet.  You will need breaks, but breaks should not compete with your desire to keep going until the job is done.
  5. Don’t quit until you’re done … even if finishing takes longer than expected. Stopping short is habit-forming. Start finishing and stop starting. Get stuff done. People are watching you in more ways that you realize. There’s a significant difference between a “starter” and a “executor.”

The leaders I know find ways to get stuff done. Stuff of all sorts. I use these tips above … in my work … and, trust me … they work!”
