The morning’s next session was conducted Clay Scroggins.  Clay is the lead pastor of NorthPoint Community Church’s Alpharetta campus.  The following are 23 leadership quotes from his informative session:

  1. The healthier I am as a person, the better our organization is.
  2. Healthy teams are made up of healthy people.
  3. The influence and effectiveness of our team is most determined by our individual emotional health.
  4. Great leaders are not necessary made up of people with high IQ. There made up of people with high EQ.
  5. Emotional Health – The ability to recognize and manage our emotions as well as control our behavior in response to other people’s actions.
  6. My job is 100% customer service. We are a service-minded, servant-hearted organization.
  7. The challenge for us is we don’t know what we’re feeling.
  8. Nothing distracts us more from trending toward emotional health than white noise.
  9. The point of white noise is a tool for masking unwanted sound.
  10. We all depend on white noise to mask the unwanted emotions we experience either.
  11. For pastors, ministry itself can become white noise we can use.
  12. We’ve become people who are unaware of what we’re actually feeling.
  13. The worst form of white noise is the phone. Have you noticed how much prayer we’ve lost to scrolling on the phone?
  14. I want to be aware of what I’m feeling.
  15. The keystone habit of Emotionally Healthy Leaders to turn down the white noise low enough and long enough to be ruthlessly curious of what our emotions are trying to say.
  16. White noise kills curiosity.
  17. The point of fasting is to turn down that urge so that you can actually feel and hear what is going on. The point of prayer is stopping to say, ‘God, what do You want to say to me today?’
  18. Experiment with your white noise. Just try tomorrow putting your phone in the drawer.
  19. Identify the emotion. Men only have two emotions. We’re either angry or happy.
  20. Interrogate the emotion. Why are you here? Who sent you?
  21. Make a determination for the emotion. Do I pay attention to this emotion or choose not to.
  22. There is a version of you that is the best version of you. The best version of you is the most aware version of you.
  23. The best version of your team is the most aware version of your team.
