This morning we are privileged to enjoy today’s opening session at the Orange Conference conducted by none other than Andy Stanley, senior pastor of North Point Community Church.

The following are 30 leadership quotes I captured during Andy’s session:

  1. Reggie (Joiner) is not just the real deal. He’s the REAL, REAL DEAL.
  2. “I’d really like to find a pastor who’s a little bit ahead of me I could talk to.” – Dr. Charles Stanley. “Dad, there aren’t any.” – Andy
  3. Vertical Mortality is about keeping peace with God by keeping peace with God.
  4. Vertical Mortality is about finding out what’s a sin and what’s not a sin.
  5. God does not answer the question ‘how close can I get to sin without sinning.’
  6. Vertical Morality is a cause-and-effect thing.
  7. I’ve never met a person who has never heard of Abraham. God said He would make his name great.
  8. Horizontal Morality is about a relationship with Christ.
  9. When someone predicts their death and resurrection, you just go with what they say.
  10. You can’t dismiss people and be right with God.
  11. Everyone you are ever eyeball-to-eyeball with is someone for whom Jesus died.
  12. Your love and devotion for God is demonstrated and authenticated by your love for other people.
  13. If we are not careful we will accidently orientate our students to loving an invisible God rather than visible people.
  14. Lying says to the person you’re lying to, ‘You’re worthless.’
  15. We would tell our kids – Honor your mother and do not lie. That covers everything.
  16. Lying breaks the relationship.
  17. The reason we should be generous is because it helps people.
  18. My generosity is out of gratitude of what Christ has done for me.
  19. Paul never leverages the Old Testament for conduct.
  20. All of behavior is to be informed by what God has done for us.
  21. Sex before marriage is a sin.
  22. I don’t want to do anything that hurts. I don’t want to do anything that would diminish your future relationship. I don’t want to be a regret.   – On why not to have premarital sex
  23. If it’s not best for them, it’s a sin. That’s New Covenant behavior.
  24. All the New Testament imperatives are simply applications of Jesus’s commandment. It’s that simple…They are there for the benefit of the people we have been called to love.
  25. Horizontal Morality is less complicated but more demanding.
  26. What does love require of me?
  27. Aren’t you glad your Heavenly Father didn’t look for a loophole when it came to your sin?
  28. If you mistreat one of my kids, don’t invite me to lunch.
  29. You do something for my children, you’ll be my friend forever.
  30. I asked Sandra, ‘Is there anything that brings you more joy than watching our kids love one another?’
