13 Leadership Quotes And Lessons From Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Tonight I had an opportunity of attending the initial showing of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.  It is not as good as Jurassic World but no one is trying to win Academy Awards here.  In terms of quality, it feels like the second and third installments of Jurassic Park.

Picking up four years after the previous movie, an active volcano is threatening the extinction of all the remaining dinosaurs on Isla Nublar.  Claire Dearing, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, is now an animal rights activist hoping to save the dinosaurs.  She is subsequently tricked into bringing in Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, to rescue the animals, specifically the velociraptor Blue.

The dinosaurs are ultimately rescued to be sold on the black market.  What ensues is what you would expect – dinosaurs escaping captivity and the ensuing carnage.

There is no language or nudity.  Humans do get consumed but that is expected.  My recommendation is to keep the bar low on expectations and just enjoy yourself for a couple of hours.  This is what summer popcorn movies are all about – big sound, chase scenes, explosions.  You get the picture.

The following are 13 Leadership Quotes And Lessons From Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom:

  1. Ian Malcolm, played by the returning Jeff Goldblum, said, “We altered the course of history.  This is a correction.”
  2. Successful Leaders Know What Their Teams Need – Benjamin Lockwood, played by James Cromwell, said, “These creatures don’t need our protection.  They need our absence.”
  3. The Answer To Every Problem Is A Person – Eli Mills, played by Rafe Spall, said “Eleven species. Blue is the last of her kind.”  Claire said, “You’ll never capture her.”  Mills responded, “We thought you might know someone who could help.”
  4. Smart Leaders Count The Cost – Owen said, “I know why we’re here.  A rescue op, save the dinosaurs from an island that’s about to explode.  What could go wrong?”
  5. Leaders Touch A Heart Before Asking For A Hand – Claire told Owen, “Blue is alive.  You raised her.”
  6. A Leader’s Decision Have Significant Consequences On Others – Owen told Claire, “If I don’t make it back, remember you’re the one who made me come here.”
  7. Conflict Is Part Of A Leader’s Life – Eli Mills, played by Rafe Spall, noted, “Man is endlessly drawn to war and to win it.”
  8. Smart Leaders Get A Mentor And Mentor Others – The latest dinosaur cooked up on their lab was the most dangerous one ever created – the Indoraptor.  Dr. Wu, played by BD Wong, told Mills the animal needed a mother to make a behavioral imprint on the dinosaur.
  9. There Is A Difference Between Exposure And Experience – Claire said, “Do you remember the first time you saw a dinosaur? First time you see them, it’s like… a miracle. You read about them in books, you see the bones in museums but you don’t really… believe it. They’re like myths. And then you see… the first one alive.”
  10. Leadership Determines Direction – Owen acknowledged, “This is not your fault.”  Claire said, “But it is.” Owen then reminded her, “No. This one’s on me. I showed them away.”
  11. Greed Is Bad – During a black market auction, the greed to get rich off the dinosaurs ultimately resulted in the Indoraptor getting released and causing much carnage.
  12. You Get To Make Your Decisions.  You Just Don’t Get To Choose The Consequences – Malcolm said, “Genetic power has now been unleashed. You can’t put it back in the box.”
  13. Always Leave Your Customers Wanting More – The final (for now) installment of the Jurassic World trilogy is set for release in 2021.

Once again, this movie is not as good as its predecessor but feel free to take your family and have a great time.
