6 Things You Must Do To Attract Top Young Talent To Your Church Staff, Business Or Athletic Team

Attracting young talent to your church staff, business or athletic team is critical to your success as an organization.  Successful organizations are green and growing.  Young talent ensures sustainability and future success.

Today, the University of Georgia mens basketball team received a verbal commitment from Anthony Edwards, the nation’s top high school player.  It is the first time in the school’s history it has landed a player rated so highly.  For a look at his skills, watch the video above.

It is important to note why Edwards chose the Bulldogs over the Kentucky Wildcats and head coach John Calipari.  In yesterday’s DawgNation.com, writer Chip Towers gave us a peak into the decision process.  You can read the full article HERE.  The thoughts contained are something all leaders can learn from.

The following are 6 Things You Must Do To Attract Top Young Talent To Your Church, Business Or Team:

  1. Young Talent Is Attracted To Talented Leaders – Top young talent will not work for substandard leadership.  Winfred Jordan, head coach of the Atlanta Xpress AAU team, said of head coach Tom Crean, “Crean is amazing to us; he’s going to be the second-best thing to happen there outside of (former head coach in the 80’s) Hugh Durham.”
  2. Young Talent Want To Be Taught – They are eager to learn.  Jordan adds, “He is a true teacher of basketball. He teaches his players the game and he doesn’t have just one philosophy.”
  3. Young Talent Want A Personalized Development Plan – They are eager to get better.  Jordan continues, “He’s always doing a lot of individual stuff to help develop his players. That’s important, that’s big. Coach Crean spends a lot of time making players better individually.”
  4. Young Talent Want To Chart Their Own Course – They are eager to make a difference.  Noting Edwards college options, Jordan said, “He loves Duke; he loves Kentucky.  Kentucky really has him in awe right now.  It’s hard to go against Kentucky basketball.  But Anthony wants to write his own script, write his own chapter.  He wants to write his own book.  That’s him.”
  5. Young Talent Want To Be Validated – They are eager to be loved.  Unlike previous head coach Mark Fox, Crean openly embraces one-and-done players who desire to go to the NBA.
  6. Young Talent Want To Be Part Of A Larger Community – They long for a network of friends.  Noting how close the University of Georgia is to his Atlanta home and the personal connections available to him, Coach Crean said, “And look at what this place has to offer? We have everything you could possibly need, plus a great education.”

What is one thing you learned from the points above that will help you attract young talent?
