Sports can teach you a lot about life.  Watch any game and what do you see when someone is knocked or falls down?

They are not abandoned and left alone to fend for themselves.  You see another player or multiple teammates hurry over to them, extend a helping hand, and assist them in getting up.  It is simply second nature in the world of athletics.

However, it is not second nature in other areas of life.  In fact, many times the extension of a helping hand does not happen at all.  Sadly, many times the teammates run in the opposite direction.

When a pastor has a leadership crises, oftentimes they are abandoned by their elders or board.  Those they have invested in for years, those they have received in the most, offer the least amount of help.  And if the pastor has a national platform, their friends are often no where to be found.

When an athletic coach or political figure faces challenges, people start jumping ship and getting the last seats on the lifeboats.  No helping hands are being extended.

I am not saying sin does not have consequences.  What I am saying is when one of my friends get knocked or fall down, my default mode should be to extend a hand and help them up.  The other details can and will be worked out afterwards.

If extending a helping hand is assumed on the athletic field, how much more should it be expected at your church, business or non-profit?
