The following are 14 Lessons from John Maxwell’s Teaching on The Pareto Principle I captured from John’s teaching:
- The key to leadership is priorities.
- There’s no such thing as time management.
- Tell how you manage something that’s already set? If you manage or don’t manage time, there’s still 24 hours in a day.
- It’s not time management we need to work on. It’s priority management. It’s not the time that we have that’s the problem. It’s what we do with the time.
- Two things I realized. I was doing too many things in my life… I was doing the wrong things.
- That’s a recipe for disaster – doing too many wrong things.
- Pareto says, “The top 20% of your priorities will give you an 80% return if you spend 80% of your time on the top 20% of your priorities.”
- You have to evaluate or stalemate.
- If you’ve got 10 things to do, you shouldn’t be doing 10 things. You should basically be doing two things.
- 20% of the customers will bring in 80% of the profits.
- 20% of the employees will generate 80% of the problems.
- 20% of the salespeople will generate 80% of the sales.
- 20% of the information produces 80% of the decisions.
- 20% of your people will take 80% of your time. Almost always, they’re the wrong 20%… If they’re coming to you, they’re the wrong 20%.
What gets in the Top 20% of my priorities?
- Requirement – What is required of me? What do I have to do that no one else can do except me?
- Return – What gives me my greatest return? Your return is always going to be in 3 areas – giftedness, experience, and growth.
