Earlier this week I had the privilege of attending a monthly lunch-and-learn event called Lunch With A Leader. This event is hosted by NorthStar Church and its senior pastor Mike Linch. Over 200 business leaders, first responders, coaches, educators, government officials, and ministry leaders attend each month and learn principles of spiritual leadership from Mike. Stop for a moment and read that previous sentence again!
The goal is to change the communities of Acworth and Kennesaw, GA by helping people lead with their faith out in front.
Mike discussed the potential of those in leadership from the life of Moses from Exodus 2:1-10. It was just pure leadership gold. The following 36 Quotes and Lessons About The Potential Of Those In Leadership I captured from Mike’s teaching:
- We all want to be our best all the time.
- In the Bible, God gives us the goods and bad.
- We think of great leaders and we think they must have had it easy.
- God’s always in control.
- When you look at Moses’ life, nothing was setup easy. In fact, there were many things set up for him to fail.
- Believe that every person is valuable and has great potential to be used by God.
- See them for who they can be and not who they currently are. Very few people can pull out the part you don’t see.
- As a leader, God put you where he put you for the investments you make in people, not just your job.
- God’s bottom line is always the people.
- Spiritual leaders have vision to see the best in people. They see who they could be and are able to call it out.
- The Pharaoh saw Moses as a threat.
- Jochebed saw Moses’ value and potential. She saw he was a special baby.
- “Vision is the ability to see potential in what others overlook.” – Rick Warren
- Helping people reach their potential is my highest calling. I must be willing to do whatever it takes.
- Spiritual leaders are servants.
- Leaders will always go to the extra mile for the bottom-line. Spiritual leaders always go the second mile for someone else’s bottom-line.
- The great leaders just flat don’t give up on people.
- “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the right things.” – Ronald Reagan
- Bobby Cox never assumed he was the reason for the team’s success.
- When I don’t see God’s plan I can always trust God’s heart. There are times as a leader the plan is not clear.
- Spiritual leaders have faith in a bigger plan.
- When you walk with the Lord, your faith develops. When your faith develops, your trust in the Lord develops.
- There’s days I don’t know what to do. But God sees it and you can trust His heart.
- Someone else is going to sit in your chair one day and do your job. So why not understand God’s got this.
- Moses finally used what he was taught at age 80.
- Jochebed knew God had a plan to use Moses. – Hebrews 11:23
- Jochebed had to let go and trust God.
- “To trust God in the light nothing but trust Him in the dark – that is faith.” – Charles Spurgeon
- Trusting the team when you are winning is awesome. Trusting people when you are losing…
- Be patient. Every investment I make in people is worth it.
- The most important meetings in a leader’s life are the one’s that just happened, the ones you didn’t prepare for.
- Do you ever struggle putting your mind on you? I wasn’t put here for me. I was put here for you and the people around me.

- Moses gave away something now (in Egypt) because God had something bigger later.
- You don’t know your greatest leadership potential may not be in you but rather somebody behind you who will stand on your shoulders.
What an amazing event!!! Once again, OVER 200 community leaders were in attendance!!! What is one thing you can apply from Mike’s lesson which will make you a better leader?
