Last night I had the pleasure of seeing the new Will Smith action film Gemini Man. This was an enjoyable, fun experience and a great use of two hours. There are times you simply just want to escape reality a little bit.
In this movie, Henry Brogan, played by Will Smith, is a retiring government hitman. He is elite and the best ever to perform his assignment. Therefore, the government was not thrilled to see him leave. So much so that during a surgery several years earlier, a military research group called Gemini took his blood and cloned a younger replica named Junior. Because of his institutional knowledge, Brogan must now be eliminated. Various soldiers and tactical units were unsuccessful in their efforts to do so. Therefore, Junior was dispatched and mayhem ensued.
There is no nudity but a few unnecessary GDs. What I remember about the evening was the tactical officers both outside and inside the theater. Because of the movie Joker, policemen were put in place for protection from possible violence. I bought my tickets online. So when I checked in and was walking to Theater 11, I heard on a police officer’s radio who was manning the hallway, “Brian Dodd +1 is headed towards you.” I said, “I’m Brian Dodd and thank you for all you do. Stay safe out there.” What an unfortunate sign of the times.
The following are 15 Leadership Quotes And Lessons From Gemini Man:
- You Can Never Have Enough Great Leaders – What’s better than Will Smith in a move? How about two Will Smiths… or three.
- Smart Leaders Embrace Technology – The scenes in which the 51-year-old Will Smith is either talking with or fighting the 23-year-old Will Smith are incredible! I can’t wait to see how they made these scenes. Technology has simply taken the movie-going experience to an incredible level.
- Great Leaders Have A Unique Skill Set – Both Brogan and Junior had very specialized tactical skills. Brogan in particular was an incredible sniper. Junior was simply younger, faster and stronger.
- Great Leaders’ Unique Skill Set Is Very Valuable And In High Demand – Unique skill sets are so rare that those who possess them are often compensated very well. Brogan and his compatriots lived high quality lives.
- Leaders Are Always Searching For Peace And Contentment – Brogan acknowledged, “72 kills. Deep down my soul is hurt… I want some peace.”
- “Here’s to the next war which is no war.”
- Healthy Fear Makes You Alert – Brogan said, “Scared is good. It means you’re alert.”
- Experience Brings Perspective – Gemini head Clay Verris, played by Clive Owen, said, “When a soldier is young, they’ll believe anything you tell them. When they grow old, they get stupid and develop a conscience.”
- Smart Leaders Understand The Incredible Value Of Experience – When Brogan took Junior captive, Junior defiantly said, “I’m the best!” Brogun resounded, “You are obviously not the best!” The difference was no matter how talented and fast Junior was, he lacked experience.
- There Is Nothing As Disappointing As Leaders Who Waste Their Talents – Brogun told Junior, “I threw all of that (experience, talent) away. It be a shame to waste these games a second time.”
- To Be A Successful Leader You Must Embrace And Overcome Fear – Verris said to Junior, “The whole point of this was to give you all of Henry’s gifts without his pain. The thing that you’re struggling with, it’s fear. Embrace it, and then overcome it.”
- Leaders Want To Be Empowered To Make Their Own Decisions – Junior said, “You made a person out of another person, then you sent me to kill him. You made a choice to do this to me.”
- Imitations Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery – Verris told Brogun, “Look what we created. You were the inspiration for all this.” Brogun asked, “Why not just make whole army full of them?” To which Verris responded, “Why not? You should be flattered.”
- Your Success Is Often Determined By The Loudest Voice In Your Life – When Junior began listening to Brogun over Verris, he found success and contentment as a human being. Your success is often determined by who you select as your mentor.
- Your Job Is What You Do, Not Who You Are – While Junior had superlative combat skills, he ultimately found fulfillment as an average college student.
Once again, Gemini Man is a fun movie! Go check it out and have a great time.
