“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.” – Hebrews 11:8-10 (ESV)
What Christians are going to need to have in their lives to properly navigate the coronavirus is faithfulness. They will need a consistency birthed from a place of complete dependance upon Jesus Christ. But how do you know if you are a faithful Christian or not?
This past Sunday, the amazing theologian and senior pastor of Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell, GA, Dr. Crawford Loritts, preached a message on this very topic. Utilizing the passage from Hebrews shown above, Crawford used the life of Abraham as a template for how we should live our lives today. His thoughts were so insightful I want to share them with you.
The following are 3 Signs You Are A Consistent And Faithful Christian During The Coronavirus COVID-19 I captured from Crawford’s incredible message. All quotes are his.
- Abraham’s life was not unlike ours. His was a journey of faith.
- If we’re followers of Jesus Christ, we are going to trust Him.
- Our life is in the hands of our great, Almighty God. The issue of faith is the object of the faith.
- Faith is a command in the Scriptures.
- The same faith that transformed our lives will sustain our lives during difficult periods of our life.
- No faith, no God-pleasure.
- Faith is obedience. Faith is a verb even when it is a noun. It is a response to God. It is something we do.
- Obey the Word of God. We read it, we do it.
- Faith is believing God in spite of opposition.
- Faith is not cheap. It is not convenient. It rises to opposition.
We Obey God When We Don’t Know Where We’re Going
- What we clear was not “the where.” What was clear was “The Who.”
- He knew God had spoken and that was all the confidence he needed.
- Don’t take God’s clear directions as suggestions. There is only one acceptable response to God and that is “Yes.”
- We follow God, not so much a plan. We follow Him and He knows the way through the wilderness.
- Are you afraid to move?
- Wisdom is not so much me knowing what God is doing. Wisdom is responding godly based upon the information He has given me.
- To demand all the answers before we act is to say to God He has to trust us before we move.
- We want God to provide before we say “Yes” to God. God says, “Say ‘Yes’ to me and I will provide.”
- Faith is obedience and we obey God even when we don’t know where we are going.
- Doing what God tells you to do is everything.
We Obey God Even When We Do Not Know When God Is Going To Fulfill His Promise(s)
- Abraham “was a good as dead.” He could not produce life.
- With impatience sometimes comes rationalization.
- Being very careful to adding to what God says.
- Impatience and recklessness is not faith.
- We sometimes brand our reckless behavior and then ask God to bless it.
- God doesn’t work when we demand Him to but when He is ready to.
- Sometimes it takes more faith to stand still than to move forward.
- frantic activity to solving my own dilemmas.
- Waiting allows us to savor God’s sovereignty over our lives.
- When you can’t do anything, don’t try to do something. There are lessons to be learned in silence and solitude.
- When God gives us something to soon, we may get more attached to the provision than the provider.
We Obey God When We Don’t Know Why God Is Asking Us To Do The Excruciating, The Painful
- Don’t try to edit God and don’t try to bring prematurely and synthesis the conflict you feel. Let God solve that.
- Part of what this pandemic is teaching the church of Jesus Christ is we have been dependent on too many other things. We have lost the complete obedience to God.
- If we can’t give back to God what He has given us, then what He has given us has replaced God.
- If we can’t give our kids back to God, then our kids have replaced God.
- If we can’t give our spouse back to God, then our spouse has replaced God.
- If we can’t give our money back to God, then our money has replaced God.
- If we can’t give our career back to God, then our career has replaced God.
- Too many of us are holding God as if He is optional.
- To say you are a person of faith is to say you will obey God in every area of your life.
- Coming out of the coronavirus, life will never be the same anymore and I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing.
- The coronavirus should not affect our vision of God. If anything at all, it should drive us closer to Him. If anything at all, it should burn away the non-essentials in our lives.
