Live Blog – 16 Leadership Quotes From Joel Mamby At ReThink Leadership On Leading During Crisis

Over the next two days I will be dispatched by INJOY Stewardship Solutions to provide live-blogging the ReThink Leadership and Orange Conference.  This is one of my go-to events each year.  Led by Reggie Joiner and Carey Nieuwhof, I feel this annual event provides the greatest amount of informative and relevant leadership content available.  This year is proving to be no different even though it is an online experience.

As part of these posts, I want to make you aware of an incredible offer from MinistryDeal.com.  We know pastors are needing to communicate in new and fresh ways to fund their ministries during COVID-19.  As a result, online offerings are a challenge for many leaders.  MinistryDeal is offering 52 giving talks for only $47!!!  That’s right, less than $1 per talk.  If these done-for-you talks help you get just one gift over the next year, it pays for itself.  Plus, think how much stress is relieved and how many man-hours you will save by not having to generate this content.  There is no better ROI.  Simply click HERE or on the image provided to purchase.  You will also get three FREE bonus items.

ReThink Leadership’s next speaker was Joel Mamby.  Joel is the founder and CEO of Love Works, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping companies implement a culture of love in their organizations. Previously, he was the President and CEO of SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, and the President and CEO of Herschend Enterprises, an entertainment company with brands such as the Harlem Globetrotters and Dollywood. Joel spent 20 years in the auto industry in general management and marketing roles. He is the author of Love Works: Seven Timeless Principles for Effective Leaders.

The following are 16 Leadership Quotes from his session on leading during crisis:

  1. We all learn more from our failures than our successes.
  2. Patient – We can’t be patient about pivoting and protecting cash. We have to keep the core of the business going.
  3. Pivot your business according to the crisis that is happening. You must lead with a short-term mindset about the things that are happening at the time but at the same time, think about the future.  Manage like it’s a crisis but think like it’s the future.
  4. We have to be present, authentic, and empathetic.
  5. Kindness in a crisis means encouragement.
  6. People don’t want a cheerleader or a comedian. They want someone who will deal with the issues.
  7. Trusting – Most senior leaders, when things get tight, they want to pull in control. To move quickly in a crisis, you must focus your people on their responsibilities and go let them get it done.
  8. Truthful – Brutal honesty… Fear is not a sign of weakness but it can’t stop the team from doing the main mission.
  9. We must contextualize the facts.
  10. It is more important to communicate with clarity than certainty.
  11. Forgiving – Act forgiven because we are forgiven.
  12.  This is probably the most stressful leadership you will ever go through.
  13. Unselfish – We need to share the pain.
  14. All of us can serve and be unselfish with the assets God has given us.
  15. Dedicated – This feels like peril vs. goodness. We’re dedicated to get through this.  We will get through this.
  16. We all have to be dedicated because love never fails. We will get through this one way or another and we must show this to our people.

What a compelling message!  Keep checking back over the next two days as more content will be coming from an incredible collection of speakers.  Next up is the one and only Simon Sinek.
