The Impact Of Showing Someone A Little Compassion

Anne Murray once wrote a song which said “I sure could use a little good news today.”  This past Sunday afternoon my Bluehost rep was updating the PHP on this site.  During the awkward silence while she was working, I asked how her day was going.

She said she had not seen her family in three months because of COVID-19.  I said, “Wow!  That is awful.  How are you doing?”  She replied, “She was making the best of it but looked forward to getting out of quarantine.”  I said, “I can’t imagine.”

After she completed the updates, I said, “You probably noticed my site has a Christian bent to it.  Would you mind if I could say a quick 10-15 second prayer asking God to let her see her family soon?  I promise I will not make it awkward.”  She said I could.

I then prayed a quick prayer for her and thanked her for wonderful service she provided.  She was appreciative and then returned to the standard script asking if there was anything else should could do.  I did, however, participate in the automatic survey and gave her a perfect score.

Shortly afterwards, I received the above email from her.

As I read her note, I thought maybe, just maybe, some short prayers with hurting strangers is what the world needs right now.  All it takes is some listening skills and a little kindness.

Everyone sure could use a little good news (and a little compassion) today.
