13 Differences Between Big Thinkers And Small Thinkers

In the picture above, I am reading Patrick Bet-David’s new book Your Next Fives Moves: Master The Art Of Business Strategy In it he writes, “In 2005, the National Science Foundation published an article stating that the average person has between twelve thousand and sixty thousand thoughts per day.  Of those, 80 percent are negative and 95 percent are exactly the same as those of the day before.”

Let me restate these facts – TODAY alone, you and I will have between 12,000 and 60,000 thoughts on average.  Let me go a level deeper, TODAY alone, you and I will have between 9,600 and 48,000 negative or older thoughts on average.

Paul in his letter to the Phillippians wrote these famous words, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (4:8, ESV)

When you balance today’s statistics with timeless Scripture, it becomes obvious our thinking is seriously misguided.

To help in this area, Bet-David outlines 13 Differences Between Big Thinkers And Small Thinkers in the section shown above:

  1. Big thinkers are not paying attention to celebrity gossip.
  2. Big thinkers do not obsess over the news.
  3. Big thinkers get bullet points in the morning to stay abreast of current events.
  4. Big thinkers do not waste time on clickbait.
  5. Big thinkers do not waste time on conspiracy theories.
  6. Big thinkers turn off the noise from negative friends.
  7. Big thinkers turn off the noise from small thinkers.
  8. Big thinkers turn off the noise from non-supportive family members.
  9. Big thinkers also cut out video games (unless you’re making money from them).
  10. Big thinkers eliminate late-night partying.
  11. Big thinkers are not selfie-conscious.
  12. Big thinkers don’t obsess over fantasy stats.
  13. Big thinkers work hard to eliminate bad habits and secret vices.

Using Bet-David’s words in light of Scripture, we are reminded big thinkers are focused on facts, success, honor, positivity, beauty, what’s working right, good news, and things that are God-honoring.

That’s what Big Thinkers are thinking about.  So I now ask, what are you thinking about?
