It is obvious Tom Brady changed the culture of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year. What I am on a mission to find is exactly how he changed the team’s culture. That’s the secret sauce I am looking for.
On March 5th, former NFL head coach Eric Mangini appeared on The Colin Cowherd Podcast. As a former New England Patriots assistant coach, he made some very insightful comments on what the Pats missed this year by not having Tom around this past season. The following are 10 Things The New England Patriots Missed By Not Having Tom Brady In 2020 I gleaned from his comments:
- The New England Patriots Missed Tom Brady As A Culture Builder – “You had the greatest player in the history of football and he made a lot of things so much better.”
- The New England Patriots Missed Tom Brady’s Influence In The Locker Room – “You know where it’s going to be hard is in the locker room.”
- The New England Patriots Missed The Legitimacy Tom Brady Gave Bill Belichick’s Coaching With Other Players – “The legitimacy that Tom gave Bill from a coaching perspective in the sense that if he’s coaching Tom Brady pretty hard and Tom Brady’s doing it, there’s nobody else in that room that’s going to say, ‘I’m not going to do that.'”
- The New England Patriots Missed Tom Brady Co-Signing On Things Affecting The Team – “And when you don’t have Tom Brady going into the locker room and co-signing on things, it’s a different dynamic.”
- The New England Patriots Missed Tom Brady’s Impact On Attracting Quality Free Agents – “And I’d say from a free agency perspective, like getting guys to come to New England, probably going to be a little harder than it used to be because you don’t have Tom Brady in that locker room.”
- The New England Patriots Missed Tom Brady As A Problem Solver – “How many disagreements did he make sure were avoided between the coordinator and a disgruntled receiver or Bill and someone pissed off in the locker room?”
- The New England Patriots Missed Tom Brady’s Work Ethic – “What affect did he have to get guys to come and work that much harder because of how hard he was working?”
- The New England Patriots Missed All The Little Things Tom Brady Does – “There’s all this impact you can’t tangibly put a value on but it’s real.”
- The New England Patriots Missed The Level Of Respect Tom Brady Has With Other Players – “How do you not work hard when the greatest player to ever play is sending you texts to tell you to work hard? You’re going to save those for your grandkids. What else are you going to do?”
- The New England Patriots Missed The Play-Offs Without Tom Brady – Never confuse activity with accomplishment. The New England Patriots missed the play-offs. Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl.
