7 Qualities Of Godly Fathers

Today is a recap of the devotion I led for the ministry team I serve on at Piedmont Church.  Fittingly, it was a Father’s Day message.  On this day you can go in the following directions:

  • The privilege of being a father.
  • The joys of being a father.
  • How to leave a Godly legacy.
  • All the things fathers are doing wrong.

I chose to go in a different direction.  Rather, I chose to look at just a small portion of the qualities Jesus displays as our Heavenly Father.

My objective was not only to shine the spotlight on Him and give Him glory but also provide a framework for how the Holy Spirit works in our lives to bless our families.  Therefore, I pointed out just seven qualities along with supporting scriptures.

The following are 7 Qualities Of Godly Fathers.  First is the quality following by the Bible verse which shows the unique characteristics of God Himself.

  1. Godly Fathers Are Gentle And Show Compassion – “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him” – Psalm 103:13
  2. Godly Fathers Instill Discipline – “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.” – Proverbs 3:11-12
  3. Godly Fathers Provide For Their Families – “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?” – Matthew 6:26
  4. Godly Fathers Teach The Scriptures – “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.  My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” – John 14:23
  5. Godly Fathers Are Generous – “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17
  6. Godly Fathers Protect Their Families – “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” – Matthew 26:53
  7. Godly Fathers Point Their Children To Jesus – “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6

Hopefully, you as a father are living out these qualities.  If not, I have good news.  There is still time to begin doing so starting TODAY!
