6 Thoughts on the Subject of Talent

Attitude Gives Talent An Opportunity – Attitude is the great differentiator among people.  Two people apply for the same job, they have the same skills, but one has a great attitude while the other has a negative one.  You will always choose the one with the better attitude, thus giving them an opportunity to display their talent.
Succession Honors Talent – There is no success without succession.  Succession is a choice based upon respect, shared values, and a desire to further the legacy of the person they were succeeding.  Succession is also one of the things which multiplies talent.
Thinking Unlocks Talent – The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is how they think.  A person chooses to incorporate good thinking skills.  The Bible clearly outlines what a person should be thinking about and provides a framework for taking decision-making to a higher level.
Accomplishment Confirms Talent – I believe as a person matures in the area of his/her leadership that accomplishment is often a choice.  The Bible example is that a person was given one talent, another two talents, another five talents.  The person with one talent chose to bury his talent and suffered appropriately.  We have been given much (talents) and are thus responsible for the results.  Success smells a lot like sweat.  Put in the work.
Creativity Reveals Talent – In Genesis, we are reminded that the first acts that show the awesomeness of God were in the area of creation.  You cannot have creativity without creation.  Today, the individuals who have sustained excellence in any field are those who are on the forward edge of thinking and creativity.  Therefore, creativity is directly tied to solutions.  If attitude, leadership, and thinking skills are a choice, I think there are creativity skills inherent in each of us if we choose to develop them.
Talent Attracts Talent – Leaders must make a choice to surround themselves with other leaders.  How do you do this?  Become a better leader yourself.  Birds of a feather truly do flock together.  You can have leaders if you choose to and then create the necessary culture for them to flourish.
