A Pastor Who Loves People
This past Sunday my wife Sonya and I drove up to the campus of NorthStar Church in Kennesaw, GA to attend morning worship service. There was a light rain so people were entering the building under umbrellas. Much to my surprise who welcomed Sonya as she got out of the car but NorthStar’s senior pastor Mike Linch.
Think about that for a second! The pastor of a church with overflow crowds was standing in the misting rain welcoming those arriving!!! I’ve often said you can’t lead from the green room and Mike is the embodiment of that statement.
Why was Mike standing in the rain? Here are a few suggestions:
- Mike was out in front and leading by example.
- Mike was not going to ask anyone to do anything he would not do himself.
- Mike is the embodiment of the church’s vision of “Welcoming People Home.” He was the #1 welcomer.
- But I suspect the main reason was Mike simply loves people and can’t wait to spend time with them.
BTW, I recently had the privilege of being a guest on Mike’s Linch With A Leader Podcast. It is an incredible conversation which will encourage and make you better as a leader. Click HERE to listen. You won’t be disappointed. Also, if you want to keep up with Mike, follow him on Twitter by clicking HERE. There is no finer pastor in America!
A Coach Who Loves People
The following day I was part of a baseball scouts and coaches Zoom bible study. One of the participants was SCORE International’s and three-time Hall of Fame manager Keith Madison.
As our time came to close, Coach Madison made a profound statement, “We don’t coach baseball. We coach baseball players.”
Here are a few suggestions on why Coach Madison made such an impactful comment:
- Coach Madison prioritizes people and their well-being over how well they play the game.
- Coach Madison has a passion for discipleship and seeing people come to Christ.
- Coach Madison understands its the players who must execute on the field.
- But I suspect the main reason was Coach Madison simply loves people and can’t wait to spend time with them.
Before getting to April’s Most Read Leadership Posts, I have a question for you. Do you love those around you and can’t wait to spend time with them? If not, you need to reflect on Mike’s actions and Coach Madison’s words.
If you are a professional or amateur baseball scout or coach and would like to be part of this online weekly Bible study, email Mike Linch at mike.linch@northstarchurch.org and he will get you the details.
