Embracing Empathy: The First Commandment for Church Staff

A new podcast just for YOU…

Today, we are excited to announce a new daily podcast exclusively for church staff members. It’s called the Healthy Church Staff Podcast. You will be able to listen to a new ~5-minute episode every weekday.

On our first episode, we’re starting a two-week series called “The Ten Commandments for Church Staff.” Each day, we’ll unpack a new ‘commandment’ that, if you put it into practice, will set the stage to helping you make 2024 a healthy and productive ministry year for you (and your family).

Take a listen now!

Empathy

First up? Commandment #1: Do for Others.

It’s the golden rule, the cornerstone of empathy, and the key to building strong relationships. But how do we truly embody this principle in the daily grind of church life?

Red flags to watch for:

    • Neglecting others’ needs: Ignoring or minimizing the needs of others, especially when it clashes with your own convenience, could be a sign you’re not “doing unto others.”
    • Harshness and unfairness: Quick to judge? Treat others in ways you wouldn’t want to be treated? That’s a red flag. Remember, the plank in your eye might be bigger than you think!
    • Self-centeredness: Putting your own desires and preferences above others? This is a common pitfall, but remember, a healthy ministry thrives on putting others first.
    • Inconsiderate actions: Decisions made without considering their impact, neglecting apologies when needed – these are all signs you might be forgetting the golden rule.

Empathy is key. Putting yourself in others’ shoes and treating them with respect and kindness is the essence of “doing for others.” It’s not a burden, it’s the foundation for a joyful and fulfilling ministry.

Intrigued? Stay tuned for Commandment #2: Practice Humility, coming tomorrow! And don’t forget to:

    • Subscribe: Never miss an episode and dive deeper into your ministry journey.
    • Share the knowledge: Tell your fellow staff members about this podcast and spread the message of a healthy church life.
    • Ask questions: Got something on your mind? Leave a comment or send an email.

Together, let’s build a church community where “doing for others” is not just a rule, but a way of life.
