Last night, my wife and I had the privilege of seeing the new movie The Forge. This is the latest film from the Kendrick brothers, producers of Courageous and War Room.
The Forge tells the story of Isaiah, a recent high school graduate with no plans, no job, no money who just plays video games and basketball all day. This wayward and bitter young man is disrespectful to his mother, women, and himself.
When forced by his mother, played by Priscilla Shirer, to get a job, he wanders into Moore Fitness. Little does he know that the company’s owner, Joshua Moore played by Cameron Arnott, enjoys nothing more than employing, developing, and discipling wayward young men.
What plays out is the incredible story of a young man’s maturity, both mentally and spiritually. The film also shows the importance of the mandate for biblical discipleship. The following are the leadership lessons and quotes I captured from the movie:
3 Questions Every Man Must Answer
- “In what ways do you want to grow in the next year?”
- “What type of man do you want to be?”
- “What do you want people to think when they see you coming?”
The following are nineteen additional leadership quotes from The Forge:
- “Keep looking. Don’t give up at the first sign of inconvenience.”
- “God wants you to know Him.”
- “Give those in authority the same respect you want them to give to you.”
- “You miss your responsibilities (or you’re late), it makes people feel disrespected.”
- “A big part of being a man is showing up.”
- “It’s hard for a woman to call out the man in her son.”
- “It is better to learn from the mistakes of other people than making your own.”
- “You need to be a fountain more than a drain.”
- “We don’t just call ourselves Christians, we are devoted to Jesus and will do anything he calls us to do.”
- “People want salvation, but few follow Him into discipleship.”
- “Your main priority as a disciple is to know Him.”
- “There is a cost to following Jesus but it’s 100% worth it.”
- “God allows gaps on purpose. If you’re earnestly seeking Him, He’ll fill those gaps.”
- “God is not like your daddy. He is a perfect father.”
- “Choose to forgive, not by feelings but by choice.”
- “Don’t be afraid of hard things if they’re worth it.”
- “Most churches are searching for converts. They need more disciples.”
- “Whoever wants the next generation the most will get them.”
- “Don’t be one in a million. Be one of a million.”
Once again, The Forge is simply amazing. I cannot recommend enough you see it this weekend. And more importantly, take a man who is not achieving his full redemptive potential.
