Today I had the privilege of being interviewed at a monthly lunch-and-learn event called Lunch With A Leader. This event is hosted by NorthStar Church and its senior pastor Mike Linch. Over 200 business leaders, first responders, coaches, educators, government officials, and ministry leaders attend each month and learn principles of spiritual leadership from Mike. The goal is to change the communities of Acworth and Kennesaw, GA by helping people lead with their faith out in front.
Mike also hosts the popular Linch With A Leader podcast. If you haven’t listened to it yet, click HERE or on the image above and do so this week. You will be glad you did. This is a must-listen podcast.
The following are 20 Quotes and Lessons on the Power of Vision I captured from today’s teaching:
Definition
What is vision – Painting a picture of a preferred future. We cast vision for what can be, not what is.
What may happen when you start sharing your vision with others or when you cast vision? Here’s what you need to know:
- People may not like you.
- People may be jealous of you. This is because of the attention and accolades,
- People may not immediately jump on board with you. People want certainty. People can’t see what you see. Give people grace to come along slowly. The wrong timing equals a bad result.
- People may follow you eventually.
Loneliness equals discouragement. Vision stretches people and is uncomfortable. Progress often means a mess.
People buy into the leader first, then the vision.
3 Questions the people want from their leaders:
- Do you care for me?
- Can you help me?
- Can I trust you?
Reminders about Vision
- The first thing you sell isn’t your vision, it’s yourself.
- The longer you are somewhere the more there is for people not to buy into? They get to know you and your imperfections
- Vision is going to take time.
- When people become confident in the vision, it is because they have first become confident in the leader.
- Buy-in is an ongoing process. Leadership never takes a day off.
People are willing to change in 4 seasons:
- When they learn enough, they want to. As a leader, keep sharing your vision.
- When they receive enough, they’re able to.
- When they see enough, they’re inspired to.
- When they’ve heard enough, they have to. As a leader, be there for them even if they haven’t been there for you.
