No one wants to watch an average movie, eat at an average restaurant, sit in an average church service, read an average book, or go on an average vacation. No one wants to live a nondescript life. It is in our nature as leaders to want to accomplish something truly remarkable. Leaders inherently desire the uncommon.
The question becomes how do you accomplish such a task?
Recently, Liza Phillips and her family were vacationing in Nantucket when they thought they had noticed a beached whale. But upon further review, a great white shark had swam/washed ashore. What she did next was truly remarkable! Enjoy the video.
As you saw, Phillips got in the water with the apex predator and pushed the fish out to sea. After watching the video, I gleaned four things leaders must do to accomplish something truly remarkable.
4 Things Leaders Must Do To Accomplish Something Truly Remarkable
Be Attentive
Oftentimes, you cannot plan for a remarkable event but you can be on the lookout for them. Phillips was simply having an ordinary day on the beach when she was suddenly thrust into an extraordinary circumstance.
Truly remarkable events often happen to those who aren’t looking for them but are attentive to what is going on around them.
Be Helpful
The most remarkable things done in this world are those things which serve others. Phillips said in this article, “We said we have to step up and try to help. Definitely, there was some adrenaline involved. One of our guests took off his shirt to go in, and I said I’m going, too.”
If you want to do something remarkable today, start but serving someone else.
Take A Risk
The passive do not accomplish the remarkable. It requires stepping out of your comfort zone and taking a risk. Getting in the water and touching a great white is not for the faint of heart.
The fruit is on the end of the branch. You will only do something remarkable by going out on a limb.
Press Into Issues
The average person (which would probably include me) would have just watched the shark and filmed this once in a lifetime event. However, the people who do something truly remarkable are those who make a difference by pressing into the issue.
Because Liza Phillips chose to press into the issue, we are writing and talking about her today. Once again, truly remarkable events are not for reserved for the passive.
Conclusion
Do you want to do something truly remarkable in your life? Then do the following:
- Be Attentive
- Be Helpful
- Take A Risk
- Press Into Issues
