The following is a sponsored post from The Aspen Group. They are one of my favorite organizations and receive my top recommendation. When a church is building a new facility from the ground up, or has existing facilities it needs to expand or renovate, Aspen Group has the expertise to bring a church’s vision to reality. But while this highly-competent design/build firm, what I love most about this organization is their heart.

Making Space Podcast
In this episode of the Making Space Podcast, Sara Joy Proppe sits down with Dr. David Taylor to discuss how we occupy space, the importance of worship and embodiment, and the value of beauty in church buildings. As we step into the church repeatedly, we begin to develop embodied habits and expectations Repeated engagement with beauty, art, and a space designed to draw us into an experience of goodness of God begins to shape our hearts. Embodied expressions of worship forge depth in our relationships with our church community and with the Lord.
Dr. Taylor, Associate Professor of Theology and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary, explains three key ways church architecture matters. First, church architecture reinforces certain aspects of God. Second, it tells narratives about what it means to be the body of Christ. Third, it creates an intimate relationship with the world at large. These distinctions highlight the profound significance architecture has for inspiration, building community, and spiritual formation. While architecture itself is important, Dr. Taylor shares stories of how congregations have used paint, windows, materials, fabrics, and light to express their beliefs about God within their church traditions.
Aspen Group invites you to engage with the ongoing conversation about church architecture and its impact on our Christian communities. How might your church take some of the ideas Dr. Taylor expresses and translate them into a beautiful space where embodied worship happens?
