The Most Important Thing Leaders Should Do When They Accomplish Something Significant

Nick DiGiovanni is a chef and social media personality.  He is also the holder of multiple Guinness Book of World Records.  On November 27th he added to the list.

Teaming up with the team at Dunkin’, he filled an 11-foot-high Dunkin’ cup with 1,200 lbs. of ice, 100 gallons of milk, and 3,200 shots of expresso at the company’s Massachusetts corporate offices.  Guinness confirmed this 276-gallon drink became the record-holder for the world’s largest iced latte. A video of the accomplishment is shown above.

When you set a world record or accomplish something quite memorable, how should you handle it?  Should you throw a party?  Most would put numerous images on social media?  Should you discuss what’s next?  After all, leaders are always looking forward.  If nothing else, should you just stare at your accomplishment for a while?

What DiGiovanni and the Dunkin’ team did provides a valuable lesson for anyone in leadership.

DiGiovanni and the Dunkin’ team then began sharing their record-breaking latte, pouring it into smaller cups to serve the 300+ employees present.

Whenever you accomplish something great or memorable as a leader, the most important thing you can do is share the success and its rewards with those around you.

Success and accomplishment should never be hoarded.  This is because no one ever accomplishes anything memorable in isolation.  Success and accomplishment are team sports.  Therefore, when you fulfill your assignment, smart leaders share the joy and rewards with the those around them.

Generosity inspires others and gives them the fuel to continue producing superior results moving forward.

You can’t sit on your trophies.  Success should always be shared.
