Is there anything more frustrating than watching incredibly talent individuals waste opportunity because they are undisciplined?
What makes someone undisciplined? Are there warning signs that leaders can see so maybe they can correct their behavior? What happens if an undisciplined person is on your team? Can they change?
The following are 10 Signs Of An Undisciplined Leader:
- Do Not Respect Authority – They mishandle the most important thing entrusted to them – people and how they utilize the authority over them.
- Neglect The “Little Things” – Disciplined leaders make a BIG deal over little things.
- Damage Relationships With Other High Performers – Is there a trail of broken relationships you have left in your wake?
- Misuse Marginal Time – Once time has passed, you cannot get it back. Therefore, it must be stewarded with great discipline.
- Unreliable – Because of a trail of broken promises and missed opportunities, undisciplined leaders simply cannot be counted on.
- Lack of Boundaries – Whether it is eating habits, infidelity, spending habits, poor use of time, or temper, undisciplined leaders have areas of their life that give a picture into an overall larger lack of discipline.
- Unfocused – Undisciplined leaders often partake in activities outside their core discipline.
- Lack of Commitment – Are you constantly changing jobs or careers?
- Dysfunctional Personal Life – Every undisciplined leader I’ve ever met had an unhappy spouse. Leadership begins at home and you can often judge a leader’s effectiveness by the happiness of their spouse.
- Complacency – Undisciplined leaders become satisfied with a certain level of success. As a result, they unknowingly sacrifice paying the price to achieve future success.
