Over the last few days I have been dispatched by INJOY Stewardship Solutions to provide live-blogging the ReThink Leadership and Orange Conference. This is one of my go-to events each year. Led by Reggie Joiner and Carey Nieuwhof, I feel this annual event provides the greatest amount of informative and relevant leadership content available. This year is proving to be no different even though it is an online experience.
As part of these posts, I want to make you aware of an incredible offer from MinistryDeal.com. We know pastors are needing to communicate in new and fresh ways to fund their ministries during COVID-19. As a result, online offerings are a challenge for many leaders. MinistryDeal is offering 52 giving talks for only $47!!! That’s right, less than $1 per talk. If these done-for-you talks help you get just one gift over the next year, it pays for itself. Plus, think how much stress is relieved and how many man-hours you will save by not having to generate this content. There is no better ROI. Simply click HERE or on the image provided to purchase. You will also get three FREE bonus items.
ReThink Leadership’s first speaker of the day was Reggie Joiner. Reggie is the founder and CEO of Orange, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to influence those who influence the next generation. Orange provides resources and training for churches and organizations that create environments for parents, kids and teenagers. Prior to Orange, Joiner co-founded North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia, with Andy Stanley. During his 11 years as the executive director of family ministry, he developed a new concept for relevant ministry for children, teenagers, and married adults.
The following are 20 Leadership Quotes from his session on how to make family matter more in your church:
- What you do every week matters.
- When you change how your church sees family, families will change how they see your church.
- Part of your role as a leader is that your entire church shifts in how they see families.
- How you treat parents will ultimately one day determine how their kids grow up and see the church.
- How you treat a kid will determine how a parent sees the church.
- Kids ministry matters more than adults. Not in terms of value, but the impact over the years is greater.
- Put your best talent in Family Ministry.
- If you’re a pastor and starting a church and can only hire one person, your first hire should be someone who can help you build a strong family ministry.
- Give your Family Ministry staff a seat at the table. Not just any table, a seat at the decision-making table.
- Allocate enough budget.
- Studies have shown when you give more of your budget to kids and teenagers, the pie gets bigger. Investing in Family Ministry attracts people into your congregation.
- Pay for staff to learn.
- You want to have the smartest, sharpest, brightest people in kids ministry. Pastor, whenever you can, go with them to learn.
- Leverage your platform to spotlight family ministry. Andy Stanley modeled this better than anyone I’ve ever known in my life.
- Andy very rarely went over time when he preached. He valued everything else that was happening in the building.
- Rethink how you measure success.
- Success for you in engaging families is so much bigger than how many show up on Sundays.
- Build a friendship with a family who doesn’t go to church. If you are a lead pastor, you’re setting the culture… Nothing does that better than building a friendship with a family who doesn’t go to church.
- If you model this as a lead pastor, you will begin to raise up a generation who see the family in a different kind of way.
- Do Orange.
What a great message! Next up is the one and only Carey Nieuwhof.
