{"id":14427,"date":"2014-05-21T10:49:09","date_gmt":"2014-05-21T14:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/?p=14427"},"modified":"2014-05-21T10:49:09","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T14:49:09","slug":"live-blog-from-purpose-driven-leadership-conference-22-leadership-quotes-from-david-chrzan-jim-and-jennifer-cowart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2014\/05\/21\/live-blog-from-purpose-driven-leadership-conference-22-leadership-quotes-from-david-chrzan-jim-and-jennifer-cowart\/","title":{"rendered":"Live Blog From Purpose Driven Leadership Conference \u2013 22 Leadership Quotes From David Chrzan, Jim and Jennifer Cowart"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"title\" style=\"color: #0061a0;\"><a style=\"color: #0061a0;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/briandoddonleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/0d003bcb-4858-47cb-bc89-7e2cfd8b64fa.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14388 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/briandoddonleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/0d003bcb-4858-47cb-bc89-7e2cfd8b64fa.png?resize=564%2C230&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"0d003bcb-4858-47cb-bc89-7e2cfd8b64fa\" width=\"564\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/briandoddonleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/0d003bcb-4858-47cb-bc89-7e2cfd8b64fa.png?w=564&amp;ssl=1 564w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/briandoddonleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/0d003bcb-4858-47cb-bc89-7e2cfd8b64fa.png?resize=300%2C122&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 564px) 100vw, 564px\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<div class=\"entry\" style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p><strong>Today I am being dispatched by\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0061a0;\" title=\"ISS\" href=\"http:\/\/www.injoystewardship.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Injoy Stewardship Solutions (ISS)<\/a>\u00a0to attend Day 2 of\u00a0<strong>the Purpose Driven Leadership Conference<\/strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0In an effort to grow in my skills to better add value to pastors and church leaders, I will be live blogging throughout.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s first session speakers were\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0061a0;\" title=\"David Chrzan\" href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/dchrzan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">David Chrzan<\/a>, Saddleback Church\u2019s Chief of Staff along with Jim and Jennifer Cowart, Founding Pastors of H<a title=\"Harvest Church\" href=\"http:\/\/www.harvestchurch4u.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">arvest Church<\/a>. \u00a0<strong>The following were their thoughts on Purpose Driven Leadership<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Unhealthy small groups kill themselves eventually. \u2013 Jennifer<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s easier to make babies than raise the dead. \u2013 David<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t be afraid of not moving forward because bad things might happen.\u00a0 If bad things happen, just handle it. \u2013 Jim<\/li>\n<li>If you want to be relevant, you have to be eternal.\u00a0 Eternal is always relevant\u2026The things that never change in people. \u2013 David<\/li>\n<li>What is scary is when you\u2019re the pastor and afraid to be the first mover because they are looking for you to lead. \u2013 Jennifer<\/li>\n<li>There is an army ready to go and no one is telling them what hill to take. \u2013 Jennifer<\/li>\n<li>We don\u2019t get to determine when God\u2019s house is full.\u00a0 The building is full but it is not the house of God.\u00a0 We have to make room for people. \u2013 Jennifer<\/li>\n<li>Leaders see stuff before other people see it. \u2013 Jim<\/li>\n<li>Sow a thought and you reap an action.\u00a0 Sow an action and you reap a habit.\u00a0 Sow a habit and you reap a character quality.\u00a0 Sow a character quality and you reap a destiny. \u2013 David quoting Rick Warren<\/li>\n<li>You can\u2019t be a leader if you can\u2019t cast a vision with what you\u2019re trying to pay for. \u2013 Jennifer<\/li>\n<li>When you write, take out the word \u201cI\u201d and reconstruct it to say \u201cYou\u201d.\u00a0 Always be personal over professional. \u2013 David<\/li>\n<li>I got a lot of vision by seeing another way to do ministry\u2026Sometimes it\u2019s just learning from others and seeing what could be. \u2013 Jim<\/li>\n<li>The most leverage I have with people is from the stage and pulpit. \u2013 Jim<\/li>\n<li>Share a clear vision and make a clear ask.\u00a0 If either of those are fuzzy, people don\u2019t respond. \u2013 Jim<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes as leaders we get too far ahead of our people and you have to come back and get them. \u2013 Jim<\/li>\n<li>Vision casting is answering the Why question.\u00a0 Why are we going to do this? \u2013 David<\/li>\n<li>People don\u2019t want to waste their life. \u2013 Jennifer<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s a difficult life being a bridge builder.\u00a0 \u2013 David<\/li>\n<li>When there are enemies, the only way to make progress is to build bridges.\u00a0 Building bridges is the only way to win people to Christ.\u00a0 You will never win your enemies to Christ.\u00a0 You will only win your friends. \u2013 David<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re a fighter, then about every conversation you have is picking a fight.
