{"id":23071,"date":"2018-08-20T17:47:41","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T21:47:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/?p=23071"},"modified":"2018-08-20T22:11:01","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T02:11:01","slug":"3-things-successful-leaders-have-learned-to-resist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2018\/08\/20\/3-things-successful-leaders-have-learned-to-resist\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Things Successful Leaders Have Learned To Resist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In today’s world, no one wants to be told “No.”<\/strong>\u00a0 Furthermore, no one wants to wait for <em>ANYTHING<\/em>. \u00a0We have a right to our opinions. \u00a0We demand our rights. \u00a0However, a life with no restraint, no restrictions, no guardrails, no sacrifice, no delayed gratification, no patience, and no discipline is a recipe for complete failure.<\/p>\n<p>This past Sunday Piedmont Church’s senior pastor <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ikereighard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Ike Reighard<\/a> observed,\u00a0<em><strong>“Our ability to choose can override God’s plan for our lives…\u00a0Our choices today = our lifestyle tomorrow.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>These words were part of the introductory comments from Ike’s amazing message on lessons from the life of Sampson. \u00a0The point he made was if we are going to become the type of person or leader God has called us to be, there are three things we must learn to resist. \u00a0Many of these ideas originated from a message previously done by Rick Warren which Ike updated for our congregation and the journey we are on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learn To Resist Being Self-Indulgent<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anything left uncontrolled will weaken you and your life.<\/li>\n<li>Strong people have to discipline their desires. \u00a0Judges 14: 1-3 says, “<span class=\"text Judg-14-1\">Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines.<\/span> <span id=\"en-ESV-6912\" class=\"text Judg-14-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Then he came up and told his father and mother, \u201cI saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah.
