{"id":28668,"date":"2021-02-17T19:46:08","date_gmt":"2021-02-18T00:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/?p=28668"},"modified":"2021-02-17T19:46:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T00:46:08","slug":"19-characteristics-of-bad-folks-pastors-and-church-leaders-need-to-be-aware-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2021\/02\/17\/19-characteristics-of-bad-folks-pastors-and-church-leaders-need-to-be-aware-of\/","title":{"rendered":"19 Characteristics of Bad Folks Pastors and Church Leaders Need To Be Aware Of"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CrawfordLoritts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Senior Pastor Crawford Loritts<\/a> of Fellowship Bible Church is currently putting on a masterclass of expository preaching through the book of 2 Timothy.<\/strong> \u00a0In fact, I previously wrote about one of his messages in the post <a href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2021\/02\/02\/3-things-a-leader-cannot-be-successful-or-even-survive-without\/\">3 Things A Leader Cannot Be Successful Or Even Survive Without<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, January 31st, Crawford preached a message from 2 Timothy 3:1-5 entitled “Don’t Be Surprised.” \u00a0To frame Paul’s message to Timothy in these verses, he said, “Part of a parent’s job is to raise their children not to be naive.” \u00a0That is what Paul is doing during this text. \u00a0He does not want Timothy to be caught off-guard. \u00a0Paul is warning him (and us today) about false teachers, wolves in sheep’s clothing, and just plain bad actors invading our churches.<\/p>\n<p>No message could be more timely. \u00a0This is a must-watch series for all pastors and church leaders. \u00a0You can do so by clicking <a href=\"https:\/\/fellowshiproswell.org\/sermons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The following are <strong>19 Characteristics of Bad Folks Pastors and Church Leaders Need To Be Aware Of<\/strong> as identified in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. \u00a0All quotes are from Crawford.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Lovers of Self<\/strong> – “The other 18 extend from this… Narcissistic. \u00a0They love themselves more than anything else.. When self becomes the center of your life more than God, everything else goes astray… You’re the thesis of every conversation.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lovers of Money<\/strong> – “They’re addicted to the power of materialism… They will worship resources.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Proud<\/strong> – “They will be puffed up.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Arrogant<\/strong> – “This is the outward manifestation of pride. \u00a0It is a pompous posture.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Abusive<\/strong> – “The word means to blaspheme. \u00a0It is the mistreatment and total disregard for the well-being of others. \u00a0People will intentionally misuse others.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disobedient to Parents<\/strong> – “This is the disregard of the institutions God has established. \u00a0God has established three institutions – the church, the government, and the family… \u00a0It is a core expression of a disregard for authority.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ungrateful<\/strong> – “There must be a bit of humility to have gratitude.. entitled.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unholy<\/strong> – “Purity is unimportant. \u00a0Morality is a moving target… They are branded by impurity.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heartless<\/strong> – “Cold, uncaring. \u00a0The inability to empathize. \u00a0Their tear ducts are dried up… Some of us have more compassion for our issues than the people who are hurt.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unappeasable<\/strong> – “They are unwilling to be reconciled with others. \u00a0You can’t pursue authentic resolution to a problem without humility… They’re stubborn.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slanderous<\/strong> – “Christians are being sucked into this on social media. \u00a0You make false statements with the intent of damaging someone’s reputation.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Without Self-Control<\/strong> – “Boundaries are non-existent… There is no restraint.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brutal<\/strong> – “This is the opposite of civilized. \u00a0Vicious. \u00a0Animalistic in your behavior… You don’t just correct an issue, you go after the individual.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not Loving Good<\/strong> – “They have no moral compass, no shame about them. \u00a0No objectivity. \u00a0They lack wholesomeness.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treacherous<\/strong> – “They are disposed to betrayal… Relationships are utilitarian.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reckless<\/strong> – “Impulsive behavior.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Swollen With Conceit<\/strong> – “They are filled with exaggerated self-importance.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lovers of Pleasure rather than Lovers of God<\/strong> – “Pleasure is the love of their life. \u00a0Narcissism flushes nobility out of your system because there’s no higher purpose than you.”<\/li>\n<li><strong>Appearance of Godliness but Denying Its Power<\/strong> – “Hypocrisy will be on steroids… There is no substance to their image.”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Pastors and church leaders, do you know anyone who matches these descriptions?
