He encouraged the band members to get a little inebriated and switch instruments. He hoped this would loosen them up and allow them to have more fun.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e831\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">So that\u2019s what they did. While passing around some beers, the musicians traded instruments. The trumpeter played bass. The bassist played guitar. The keyboardist played the tambourine.<\/p>\n<p id=\"a364\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Then, they started recording again. Throughout the routine, the band laughed, yelled, and walked freely around the studio. They weren\u2019t as worried about getting the song perfect. They assumed that this was just practice.<\/p>\n<p id=\"4a51\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">To their surprise, the drunken, sloppy version of the song made it into the album <em class=\"ki\">Blonde on Blonde<\/em> a few months later. The song is titled <a class=\"au tk\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rainy_Day_Women_%E2%99%AF12_%26_35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\"><em class=\"ki\">Rainy Day Women #12 &amp; 35<\/em><\/a>, perhaps best known for its chorus: \u201c<a class=\"au tk\" href=\"http:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/detail.php?id=2934\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">Everybody must get stoned<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"8cc1\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">It was an accidental hit.<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"0714\" class=\"im in he cg io ip iq ir is it iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Loosen Up<\/h1>\n<p id=\"2dc6\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The first leadership takeaway from the story is to loosen up. Often, we can cling too tightly and rigidly to the rules of leadership. This might be OK if you work at an organization that doesn\u2019t employ people, but none of us have that luxury.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ca49\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">For those of us who work with humans, relationships are important. And relationships suffer when our leaders are no-fun stiffs. There is a time for up-tight, no-nonsense leadership. And there is a time to loosen the tie and let loose.<\/p>\n<p id=\"9272\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">When the tension runs high and progress stalls, take a step back. Press pause and do something completely different to deflate the anxiety. It helps those you lead to relax and helps to build stronger relationships.<\/p>\n<p id=\"718c\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Perhaps we\u2019re not all in a work environment that allows us to get inebriated during a project. But that doesn\u2019t mean we can\u2019t have a little fun.<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"bf9c\" class=\"im in he cg io ip iq ir is it iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Switch It Up<\/h1>\n<p id=\"79f9\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Dylan not only loosened up with his band, but he intentionally switched their instruments. Changing roles and assignments in our work environment might seem ridiculous. But it may just be the thing you need to jump-start productivity.<\/p>\n<p id=\"70fe\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Too often, we\u2019re blinded by the familiarity of our role. The occasional shift in our perspective could be the thing to break us out of a rut. It may seem counterintuitive, but so is wasting your time doing the same things that aren\u2019t working.<\/p>\n<p id=\"57e2\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Your switch doesn\u2019t have to be as drastic as changing roles. It could be something simpler, like moving the location of your staff meeting to outdoors. Or calling staff by a new nickname for a week. Or playing music in the office to break the monotony.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e4e0\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jk jl he jm b jn uz jp jq jr va jt ju jv vb jx jy jz vc kb kc kd vd kf kg kh gx fd\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Change for the sake of change can be good sometimes. You can always change back.
