{"id":3374,"date":"2011-02-19T02:12:57","date_gmt":"2011-02-19T02:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/?p=3374"},"modified":"2011-02-19T02:12:57","modified_gmt":"2011-02-19T02:12:57","slug":"25-most-important-lessons-i-give-to-young-or-emerging-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2011\/02\/19\/25-most-important-lessons-i-give-to-young-or-emerging-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"25 Most Important Lessons I Give To Young Or Emerging Leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.womenpr.com\/site\/images\/stories\/leadership.jpg?resize=500%2C500\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>I have had the privilege of intersecting the lives of a number of people over the years <\/strong>who are either new in their leadership or\u00c2\u00a0looking for ways to increase their skills and influence.\u00c2\u00a0 If I could only give 25 tips to young or emerging leaders, here is what I would say:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The toughest person <\/strong>to lead is yourself.<\/li>\n<li>Leaders will\u00c2\u00a0either<strong> serve others <\/strong>or they serve themselves.<\/li>\n<li>A person&#8217;s talent can sometimes take them to where their <strong><a title=\"Why You Choose Character\u00c2\u00a0Over\u00c2\u00a0Talent\" href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2010\/04\/27\/why-you-choose-character-over-talent\/\">character<\/a><\/strong> cannot sustain them.\u00c2\u00a0 See Tiger Woods.<\/li>\n<li>People\u00c2\u00a0don&#8217;t need information.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0They already have an abundance of that.\u00c2\u00a0<strong>\u00c2\u00a0People need inspiration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The <a title=\"The Greatest Leadership\u00c2\u00a0Role\" href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2010\/06\/08\/the-greatest-leadership-role\/\">most intimidating leadership <\/a>assignment <\/strong>I have\u00c2\u00a0is husband and father because I am sending people forth into a time I cannot see. &#8211; <a title=\"Crawford\u00c2\u00a0Loritts\" href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/leadership-quotes\/crawford-loritts\/\">Crawford Loritts<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>The best leaders <\/strong>come out of crock pot, not a microwave.\u00c2\u00a0 They are made over time.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t rush to judgement.\u00c2\u00a0 Gather information at one level and then make<strong> decisions <\/strong>at the leadership level.<\/li>\n<li>There is great power in a good<strong> <a title=\"The Incredible Power Of A\u00c2\u00a0Compliment\" href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2010\/10\/30\/the-incredible-power-of-a-compliment\/\">compliment<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take risks<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 The fruit is out on the limb, not close to the tree trunk.<\/li>\n<li>You will either<strong> prepare or repair<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>No one likes<strong><a title=\"20 Benefits Of Change You Can Believe\u00c2\u00a0In\" href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2011\/02\/04\/20-benefits-of-change-you-can-believe-in\/\"> change <\/a><\/strong>but a baby.\u00c2\u00a0 However, change is desperately needed.<\/li>\n<li>Embrace your<strong> uniqueness <\/strong>because no two leaders are alike.\u00c2\u00a0 They come in all different shapes, sizes, backgrounds, temperaments, etc&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>People have to like you<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 You have to have a team that\u00c2\u00a0CAN help you.\u00c2\u00a0 You\u00c2\u00a0must also have a team that WANTS to help you.<\/li>\n<li>Leaders are<strong> readers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The most valuable commodity <\/strong>a leader has\u00c2\u00a0is time.\u00c2\u00a0 Don&#8217;t ever\u00c2\u00a0waste a person&#8217;s time.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s the one thing\u00c2\u00a0that once you have taken it, you can&#8217;t give\u00c2\u00a0back.<\/li>\n<li>The only difference between <strong>ANGER<\/strong> and DANGER is a &#8220;D&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 Your temper\u00c2\u00a0can\u00c2\u00a0destroy your influence.<\/li>\n<li>Great leaders don&#8217;t want a position.<strong>\u00c2\u00a0 They want influence <\/strong>and to make a difference.<\/li>\n<li>What you say<strong> &#8220;No&#8221;<\/strong> to is more important than what you say &#8220;Yes&#8221; to.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"The Addiction Of\u00c2\u00a0Generosity\" href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2010\/12\/03\/the-addiction-of-generosity\/\">Generosity<\/a><\/strong> is the new evangelism, both in business and relationships.<\/li>\n<li>The success of a leader is determined by those closest to them.<strong>\u00c2\u00a0 Build a great team<\/strong>. &#8211; <a title=\"John Maxwell\" href=\"www.johnmaxwell.com\/\">John Maxwell<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Nowhere in the Bible does God call someone to an <strong>easy task<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 Therefore, have courage because it is not going to be easy.<\/li>\n<li>Leadership has some very<strong> lonely <\/strong>times.<\/li>\n<li>There are great<strong> perks <\/strong>to leadership.\u00c2\u00a0 Everyone wants those.\u00c2\u00a0 There is also a great<strong> price <\/strong>to leadership.\u00c2\u00a0 Few are willing to pay it.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t let anyone tell you that you can&#8217;t do something.\u00c2\u00a0<strong> God can <\/strong>do extraordinary things through ordinary people.<\/li>\n<li>What matters most to me is<strong> does my wife respect me <\/strong>and does my <a title=\"20 Thoughts From A Father\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Stream Of\u00c2\u00a0Consciousness\" href=\"https:\/\/briandoddonleadership.com\/2010\/09\/28\/20-thoughts-from-a-fathers-stream-of-consciousness\/\">daughter<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0love being with me.\u00c2\u00a0 All others definitions of success are simply not\u00c2\u00a0as important.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Bonus<\/strong> &#8211;
